What are you having done (or contemplating, having done) to you?

Don't know for sure yet, but possibly spinal fusion I'm told. That was my GP, but he has referred me to the Neurosurgeon for a proper examination.

What I really want to know more than anything else is recovery time? How long before I can return to work?

I'm thinking of selling my appt and moving closer to the city/beach so if the surgery is going to put me off work for a few months then I'll hold off on selling up! Couldn't afford it.

Good that you are seeing a neurosurgeon. They are less inclined to perform a spinal fusion if other options are possible. I opted not to have one and have never regretted that. It depends of course as to whether it's a choice or required. DYOR.

I had a laminectomy for a free disc rupture. I was pretty much incapacitated prior to surgery, in hospital for five nights, and not allowed to do much at all for 6 weeks especially sitting.

agree with Pushka. Go and see a very busy neurosurgeon. The busier the better. No time for unnecessary surgery! Spinal fusion is 4-6 weeks out of action. Have you tried anything else ( facet joint injections?)

There is a lot of money spent on R&D but I can't but help think that if all the cancer research bodies were consolidated into 1 centre, that maybe the monies would be better spent than in the multiple centres that currently exist. Impossible dream, I know.

Wouldn't it be great. A super centre for all cancer research!

I've got some good news too. I now have a diagnosis & I have a staph infection rather than a unicorn bite. The antibiotics are working so I'm to continue to take them - things are healing nicely.

Perth status run is go. Just did a J points upgrade MEL - PER on the way over on a 330 (hopefully not Awful or Broken) but I have a 73 & no upgrades available in J on the way back. Trip will be Friday - Sunday & I'll have to do a TR. Decided to go Y for the rest of it to save points (SYD - OOL - MEL then PER - MEL - OOL - SYD on the way back.)

Now to go back off topic, I had a voice mail from my shift manager which was sent at 0010 today seeing how I am. Yes I was up anyway but if I'm at home, I have my phone in airplane mode because who knows what time some muppet is going to call me.

Excellent erkpod. How is the new smaller lesion going? Hopefully it's not growing.

It's very much "no holds barred". I've definitely seen bits I didn't want to, but by the same token, I'm sure it helps numerous people who are too embarrassed to go to a doctor for fear of being afflicted with something so weird, they consider themselves freaks.

Does anybody else find it rather odd that people are too embarrassed to see a doctor but are more than happy to appear on international TV

Had one of those once. Not fun, but the antibiotics worked quite well in my case.

I've only seen a few of these episodes, but some of the afflictions require surgery that I expect would be very expensive. I suspect that going to a doctor with a very personal problem that can be remedied, without expense and eliminating, in some cases, life long phobias or neurosis, would eliminate the embarrassment.

Can Melbourne based people recommend an App for the trams? I've got lots of trips tomorrow - Southern Cross to South Melbourne (Park Street), then there to Port Melbourne (terminus near Spirit of Tasmania), then back to cnr Dorcas & Kingsway; finally back into city

tramTRACKER. It is the app for the Tram operator (Yarra Trams).

currently in KL. Internet failures all over the place. VOIP service not connecting to the internet. Trying to login with another, requested a new password, but they can't set that up for a couple of days. Apparently, I've requested a new account. Ok then. Not sure who to give money out of my second and third choices as they need to work on my phone and SMWBO iPhone and probably on the inlays phone as well.

Then my emails aren't sending, something about using a password for the outgoing mail server, I assume because of being on a strange non-telstra network. But I've got the outgoing server password set up in the settings. ARGH!!

At least My Flights is now working after a couple of weeks and a few beta versions. Best App, and amazing support.

I assume you are using Bigpond, they require the SMTP authentication when off network.

If you are accessing the internet via another Internet Service Provider (ISP), but want to send email through our outgoing mail server using your BigPond email address, then you must activate SMTP authentication.

Make sure that you have adjusted the outgoing port settings as listed below, or configure your mail client so that it uses the service provider's SMTP server, with SMTP Authentication disabled. If you are uncertain on what this is, you can usually search for this online, or alternatively contact the service provider that is providing your internet access.

If you are uncertain which mail platform you are on, you can confirm this by logging in here https://signon.bigpond.com/login?site=chw&goto=http://messaging.bigpond.com/update/status.do

The complete list of email settings (including IMAP for Outlook.com accounts) can be found here http://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/email-settings

Ahhh ... that may be why I can't send bigpond emails with outlook when tethering Via Optus/Virgin mobile.
