Does anyone on this board have a good word to say about SQ's treatment of economy class pax (who do pay a premium over other airlines).

I'm a Lifetime *Gold FF with over 800,00 miles in the bank, so I'm not a complete novice. I wouldn't ever book a seat on SQ until they recognise me as a human being (albeit *G). With award seats in Y they do treat you like something of a lower order than garbage. C class is different, and I could book SQ C class (if they made it available), but I just object to this policy. So I stay completely clear of SQ. There are much nicer airlines, not controlled by ethnic Chinese.

SQ Y is hands down, the best economy experience I've ever had. Bulkhead on A380 upper deck with shadow next to me. Crew used my name the entire flight. Amazing. Was basically J without the food.

Was VA silver at the time.

But for some reason you seem to dislike SQ, so I'd suggest you stick with airlines that are "not controlled by ethnic Chinese" (which rules out a lot of the good ones).

I've booked an SQ Y award seat and it was exactly like my other SQ flights. FA's couldn't do enough to make a Y flight acceptable.

What exactly is wrong with SQ Y?

I've certainly had 'coughy' Singapore girls (yes you guys know exactly what I mean) working on my side a few times but this is more of a rarity than the norm. And I actually get this more in J than F or Y.

In fact, I can't recall ever having a bad SQ Y flight, ever. It's probably the most consistent product line SQ has (ironically) and the only other airline that comes close in Y is OZ.

I wouldn't pay a premium to fly SQ, but they are not terrible.

I would disagree their Y product is at all consistent as they use some not so modern set ups on regional routes like SIN-PVG that has old I guess 8" screens that is not vod, but old school 10 channels with pre-set movies etc.

Ive always walked away thinking I had a great Y flight with them. I was never left wanting or felt spoken to in anything less than polite but Ive read many times and have been told by locals that they feel they are badly treated by the FAs. Never seen it myself.

The impression I get from reading travel forums and blogs, is that Singaporeans feel that the FAs ignore them and look after the "foreigners".

Never had a bad SQ Y flight. If I was travelling Y they would probably be my first choice.

*G is recognised in SQ Y for seat selection, lounge access etc there would be no difference for an award ticket

Not exactly sure what your ethnic chinese comment refers as I doubt racial origin plays a part in their service culture - certainly Singaporean management styles do though.

Have only ever had one not so good experience with SQ, but that was in J on a night flight - and I think the staff in J were having a bad day. I fly SQ at least 2-3 times a year (am VA Gold) and, so far, have to say IMHO they rate as one of the best airlines for Y.

Do elaborate?

Appears just to be another anti-Chinese rant. I'd rather travel SQ Y than QF Y and can't think of any airline I rate better in Y. But it does appear there are some on this forum who don't like the Chinese much and I guess that's their prerogative, just not sure why they try and share their views repetitively when we clearly in general don't agree.

I guess they share their ideas because they can, and while I disagree with them, I'll always argue for their right to express them. Dissenting views make life interesting.
Now to the point - I've only flown SQ Y once in recent times (a few times earlier in life) and I was very happy with the hard product. The FAs were efficient and didn't really engage much but I understand this because they have a lot more people to cover than, say, in suites.
I would definitely fly then again and in fact am probably doing SIN-JNB rtn in Y later this year with the wife and 3 kids. I'll report back.

The old 772 gets used on the overnight SIN-PEK flight too. Really annoying given how convenient the timing of the flight is for connections from PEK. They desperately need to be either updated or replaced.

Agreed.

The SIN-SGN also uses the old Blue n Purple setup, I hope that they finally get a new bird on this route soon

I've only had good to great service on the odd occasion where I'm in Y.
