Our flight arrives Shanghai 22st Aug. 7pm, depart by ship 26th for Korea so 96 hours total in port, is this a transit Visa completed on arrival.

Found out can apply online or on arrival for short visit stay.

Yes went through Shenzhen to Guangdong last October what a time wasting mess.

Just come back from a cruise that departed Shanghai, we flew in spent Aprox 45 min getting fingerprinted etc, ( if your over 70 you don’t need fingerprinted) then filled in the 144 hour visa form, no big deal , like I say all over in 45 min, don’t know too much about the online application, make sure you have ALL your itenary in order.

Provided you have no other stops in China before landing in Shanghai (including any 'transit' stops), your itinerary is fine.

Mixed reports about the usefulness of the 'pre-registration'.

Processing times are all the luck of the draw - can be as quick as five minutes if you make it to an empty arrivals hall.
