Do Tasmanian Woolworths customers really prefer the "Frequent $hopper Club"?

For whatever reason, the Woolworths Rewards program does not operate in Tasmania. Instead, there's the Frequent $hopper Club which is not affiliated with Qantas Frequent Flyer. Tasmanians therefore cannot earn Qantas points at Woolworths, nor are they able to take advantage of the current status credits promo.

The upshot is that you get $10 off your shopping after earning 1,000 points, rather than 2,000 points (and the earn rate is still 1 point per $1).

Woolworths seems to think that Tasmanians prefer this program. The Frequent Shopper Club website says:

Throughout the life of the Frequent $hopper Club we have found that our customers in Tasmania prefer the Frequent $hopper Club, and have therefore maintained this program as the Woolworths loyalty program in Tasmania. As a member of Frequent $hopper Club you enjoy a double redemption rate of 1000 points = $10, versus 2000 points = $10 with the Woolworths Rewards program on the mainland.

My question for Tasmanians is... is this true?

Not from Tasmania, but seems like double the value to me, I think I would prefer double the $ value if living there and pay a discount fare in cash..

The base rate sounds better than the Woolworths Rewards system but hopefully there's more to it than just the base rate. Nearly all my points in Woolworths Rewards come from bonus point promotions. There are some shoppers in Tasmania who might want bonus points but there are others who just want to collect the base points and redeem them without much effort. I collect the points to save money on groceries so either scheme would work for me. I don't always have the time and effort to chase bonus points at the moment. Things will change once the world starts opening up.

I don't care to much about the extra QF points or SC - the cash back works well

I shop at Woolworths sometimes. Never heard of the Club. I wouldn't join the other scheme with QFF points even if it was offered. All add to the cost base in the supermarket and I imagine makes you a target for yet more marketing in one form or another.

One of the supermarkets ... Coles I think ... offered, or offered insurance. I did enquire about that once, but it wasn't offered in Tasmania. I wonder if the supermarkets are franchised differently in Tasmania? Edit: just like 'Qantaslink'!

I have never had marketing emails from the FFC - I would recommend joining it

There is a very interesting legal reason for FSC - back story dates back to when Roelf Vos sold to WW and FSC was a condition of sale.... don't have time to type it right now but you can google!

Was a legal condition related to a previous purchase/sale of another business. Tasmania is stuck with this.

As most are aware I have been visiting Tasmania for work regularly since 2007.
So in Tassie I have reversed my supermarket spending and use Coles predominantly as the Flybuys system is the same-plus I used to get many more docket deals in Tassie.
However on this visit with things looking grim for VA and no way to convert FB points to SQ via VA I am sourcing more of my supplies from independents and some from the Harvest Markets which went online since the end of March.

However I still occasionally shop at WW and if an older person is in line before or after me I ask them if they want to swipe their card with my shop to get extra points.Mostly they are very happy with that.

I don't know. I do recall that within the last 3 years a question about this was raised at the AGM. If I recall the answer correctly the suggestion was that this wasn't a high priority for Woolworths to deal with/fix/make uniform.

Surely the cost base has already increased even without you joining it, so it is probably better to get something back than nothing back at this stage. It's like when I know people who aren't frequent flyers and I tell them to sign-up, as the points are built into the cost of the ticket whether they collect them or not, so they might as well collect them.

As to which scheme is best, it likely depends on how the FF points are used. For me, I can see a minimum of 25% better value just from reward flights than the $10 cashback from my FSC.
