First time in the temporary lounge for HBA whilst renovations are occurring.
Definitely not an improvement - toilets are now in the public concourse and the space is smaller.
Food offering area is also smaller so nice and intimate. Today they have tomatoes, a week ago they were off the menu.

In a new personal low for me, 2 Americans were refused entry on their business class tickets as they needed to be a Qantas Club member according to the door person.
‘Someone’ may have overheard and interrupted stating business class was entitled.
The excuse was the QF person was not in here often and wasn’t sure, but still waited until an experienced colleague returned from <the external toilets?> to allow them in.

Its at the end of the terminal near Gate 6?
Yes. Basically veer left towards the windows and it’s there. Actually has a large red sign so you can’t miss it.

And breaking news QF seem to have stopped the random update love as currently in 4A and sooo close to a vacant 3C & 3D. But someone known to QF staff got a free big seat at the gate 😪

Is this a joke?

Also, do you have any photos of the rest of the food offerings?

No joke. The young girl was adamant they could not come in with their business class seat, they needed to be Qantas club and some other status I didn’t hear.

More food pictures? No, that was all there was. More variety at your average family Christmas party.

A Tassie thing? 🙁

Ummmm… think we would’ve heard about it if they were routinely rejecting business class passengers from the QP. Even from the OP’s words it’s clearly a clueless temp on the table while someone else went to the loo.

Juvenile comment, but not a typical.

Christmas parties tend to have a bit of booze available. What does the HBA lounge offer?

You know, in countless visits to the HBA QP I don’t think I’ve ever had a drink there ( always morning flights). But there is a fridge with the usual couple of wines and from memory three or four beers.

These photos came from 2021:

May not be the most sophisticated range, but enough to whet whistles. Thank goodness they have Boag's, eh?

So the ‘bar’ pre-noon is now just the fridge. No spirits I could see and not much place to stash them. Next journey I’ll be more alert but that’s a 0600 deal so alert may not apply.

I’m going to cause a ruckus now; Boags used to be the best beer but since COVID Lion, in their wisdom, now brew it all over Australia. The cans and bottles down here still state brewed across Australia, so whilst you would think the Tassie supplied stuff ought to be Lonnie brewed I’m not risking it and have moved over to Cascade. They have a whole range of grog not seen on the big island.
It’s the water……

I gotta admit, this temporary lounge looks a lot nicer than the drab old Qantas waiting area at Hobart (I don't think it deserves being dignified as a Qantas Club or even Regional Lounge)

It is a lot lighter and brighter than the old QP. There aren’t any toilets but that’s hardly going backwards from what we had in the QP. 😑

The temporary lounge is about 20 seats maybe 30 fewer than the old QP. The crunch will literally come during the peak departure hours.

New lounge said to be only about 30 seats larger than the old one which simply isn’t enough.

To me that's a big improvement overall. Sure it stinks that there are fewer chairs, but the old lounge was dark and dreary often with views of JétStar passengers taking the stairs up to their flight.

Presumably the area (e.g., square footage) will be larger with the new lounge? In other words they're not just rearranging the chairs on the titanic with this refurb? If the area gets larger and brighter it could be a noticeable improvement. And if they improve the restroom situation all the better.

What I will note is that Hobart has the worst Qantas lounge of any Australian capital despite the fact that it isn't even the smallest capital either (that honour goes to Darwin). I would challenge anyone here to visit the Darwin Qantas Club and then the Hobart Qantas Club and tell me with a straight face that the Hobart lounge (even with the improvements they are making now) is any better. It's a night and day difference. Tons of seating at Darwin including desks, a decent hot spread and proper restrooms!
