It's on again!
The Global Corporate Challenge 2010 is now open for team registrations.
Last year, thanks to the idea sparked from Alanslegal, AFF fielded one team called the AFF Mileage Runners into the GCC 2009. You can see the progress of the teams from these two threads:
I've received emails from the GCC and it's time to register teams again.
Of course, I will be entering again, and seeing as I did the bare minimum as a team captain last year, I don't mind doing it again. (Team captains are responsible for disseminating resources and information to the team, but amongst other things they're supposed to promote the competition in their workplace and what not. Naturally the AFF doesn't have a common workplace so that can't work
).
You can find out information about the GCC from the website Global Corporate Challenge: Corporate Health, Wellbeing & Team Building Program

So how's about it, AFF? Do you feel like stepping up to the challenge? Calling all 2009 members - are you ready to do it again?
Even if we field some teams, people are more than welcome to nominate to be a reserve, just in case members of a team have extended leave or don't want to carry on with the competition.
Even though it was a slow uptake last year, I'd be excited if we can get two teams up and running this year.

GCC in brief
How does it work?
- The GCC is one of the most successful global health initiatives to get people moving and improve their health
- Teams track their daily steps using a pedometer during the duration of the competition. These steps are entered into a database daily on the GCC website.
- As teams accumulate steps, the distance is mapped and teams "travel the world" through various landmarks and locations. At each location, teams can read up information about that location.
- Comprehensive statistics are available to track a team compared to other teams in the same geographical region, or in the world, or the same industry type. Statistics also include tracking average steps per day, carbon offset and equivalents of food burnt through the initiative.
Important Details
- Teams consist of seven members. Whilst this is not a strict rule, having less than seven members is seen as a disadvantage.
- More than one team can be submitted for any organisation.
- Teams need not consist of members who are in the same location/city (which is great for us!)
- The competition runs for 16 weeks between 20 May 2010 and 7 September 2010.
- Registrations close 12 May 2010.
- Unfortunately, packs get sent to team managers as one consignment (they cannot be sent out to individual participants). Last year as team manager I needed to disseminate packs to individual participants through Australia Post, or other means. This meant that some members did not receive their packs in time for the start of the competition, but we do our best.
- Ditto last dot point about registration payments - they must be made as one payment, not seven separate payments. Last year I paid for the registration and then organised (through cash on hand or through bank transfer) for other payments to be sent to me.
- The cost of entry per participant is $99.00 (according to GCC 2010 FAQ; same fee as last year). This money goes towards funding research in heart disease and diabetes, as well as The Footprint Initiative (minus administrative costs for the competition, of course).
