Cool! This thread has been stickied - thanks mods!

On another note, though, we still need more people! I'd rather see a second team than having one team with reserves.

Only 3 people to go... surely they should be easy enough to find!

Next Steps

Hi all.

Thanks for all your expressions of interest so far.

I have spoken with Stephanie from GCC and she is delighted to hear that AFF will be participating again with the GCC, and more excited that we may get more than 1 team this year.

She has given me this flyer which I'm supposed to distribute out to my organisation; I have edited it slightly to suit our online environment (and partially protect my identity :p):

If you are interested, your next step is to sign up with your details at the AFF GCC login page, which is located at:

Australian Frequent Flyer registration

Read this carefully: You will need to provide:
  • Your first and last name - your real name!
  • A working, contactable email address. Please make sure this is an email address that you will consistently check, because I will use this to send out communications to you.
  • In the Comment box (this is important!), please put the following detail:
    • Your AFF handle
    • Your postal suburb and postcode where your GCC pack will be sent
    • Anything else you want to say anything about your participation
  • If you would like to consider being a team captain, please check the relevant box on the page. Otherwise, leave it blank. This is just an expression of interest. Ultimately, I will find a way of assigning a team captain for each team.

What will happen is that when you register your interest at the GCC site, your details will be registered and you'll be put into a "participants pool". From this pool, as team manager I will move you into teams.

I'm hoping that all who have expressed interest so far will oblige the next step and commit to participating!

Thank you all for your interest so far - please let me know if you would like to know more.

To Do for later:
  • Delivery addresses for starter packs. Unfortunately, starter packs for a team can only be sent to one person (the team manager or team captain). The member at the delivery point will then need to forward the other packs to the other members (by mail or other means). I handled this last year by having the packs sent to me at my uni address, which was clumsy at best.
  • Payment. Cost is $99 + postage/other cartage costs to get from a delivery point to you. If your debt is to me, then I accept cash or direct bank deposit. (Sorry, no Paypal, no credit cards of any sort, no frequent flyer miles or MR points!) Payments will be required only after a team is registered and invoiced.
  • Team Names. Start thinking of them.
  • Is your participation going to be limited during the period of the competition? Let me know and we should be able to find a way around any difficulty. The easiest way around this is to use a reserve (e.g. member+1s).
Of course, if you are travelling - take your pedometer with you! AFAICT pedometers rarely - if ever - set off metal detectors in airports.

OK.

I have registered now.

I am in Melbourne so am not sure how to get my pack.

I can EFT the registration fee if I can get some details.

Shaun

None of the above was a problem last year except for one case. I'll try to be a more active team manager by providing regular updates our of teams in the GCC 2010.

Sorry for being that one case last year, I had my reasons but I won't bore you with them. Really good to see so many eager people this year! One good thing is the pedometers received I thought were quite good, and I still use it from time to time!

Well, so far 9 people have signed up on the GCC sign-on form, according to my team manager control panel.

This still leaves about that many left to sign up to get 2 full teams. Let's go, people! Thanks to the eight so far who have signed up.

EDIT: Nine people are ready to go - I forgot to count myself.
