Today we have been bombarded with Qantas dramas:
- Qantas engine explodes
- Qantas loses Unaccompanied minor
- Qantas loses maintenance contract
- 5 planes grounded
- More strike action
- Qantas doesn't negotiate with unions

With Virgin today:
- Brisbane to Gladstone flights today
- VH-VUY the AFL plane has comeback from NZ and now has been painted in the new livery.
- Putting on extra planes and demand with the ongoing Qantas cancelations
- Bringing in a brand new BSI 737 a month early.

Have a great day!

Since this is opinion, I have moved the thread from "news" to "Discussion" (I have also fixed the title).

FWIW, large organisations tend have lots more things happen that may or may not be considered news than smaller organisations.

Re: Qantas is rediculous

OK - now that I can type properly isn't there a tad over reaction to all of the dramas? One UM who didn't get lost in the system (I.e. didn't end up in DRW rather than SYD) but did get mislaid by QF staff. QF have negotiated with unions and if you read more than one side of the story you're would know that.

Five planes are grounded due to the strike action rather than it being a new drama.

QF have put on extra flights to deal with DJ issues in the past so I would expect them to do this. You cite and rehash existing issues for QF and say DJ is amazing because they bought a new plane and painted another one... Where we're you when the A380s arrived? And new livery for the socceroos was painted?

Out of interest was the AFL aircraft painted in NZ?

Almost certainly in CHC.

AirNZ has an extensive facility there. Last December I saw a DJ aeroplane undergoing some TLC along with a couple of other aircraft. They also do work on QF group aircraft for that matter.

No offence jack get your rose tinted glasses off.
Yes it is a tough time for Qantas, but if you have a look around these things happen in the world of aviation to every carrier.
Does it make them ridiculous? No not at all. It's not the first time you've made a thread like this so give it a rest.

So work being done overseas for a company that doesn't outsource overseas... I will have to cancel my DJ flights in protest at this risky overseas maintenance...

Here here!! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Seriously Jack, posts like this only serve to inflame people.

Virgin aren't all saints as you may think, they have had similar issues in the past and will have in the future.

AFAIK all the 737 aircraft are being refitted in CHC. Both A330s were painted over there as well.

- Qantas engine explodes

I've quickly searched the definition of explosion...

A violent and destructive shattering or blowing apart of something, as is caused by a bomb.

From what I can gather, there was a loud bang, vibration and an engine was shut down. The engine did not blow apart, nor was the safety of the aircraft in jeopardy. The aircraft landed safely.

At risk of sounding like John Trovolta, if something goes wrong on an aircraft, there's nobody I'd rather have at the controls, than a Qantas Pilot. I still think that Qantas pilots are a cut above the rest.

I'm saying this as someone who flies both Qantas and Virgin Australia.

Seriously Liam, stop letting the truth get in the way of a good story!

So Jack how do you reconcile this(OS maintenance) with the thoughts expressed in this thread which you liked-
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ws/we-australian-we-not-interested-33746.html

Now Jack you may not care what I think but I used to lean more to DJ than JQ flying out of MCY.But due to schedules,JQ pulling up their socks and the OTT posts of people such as yourself I am now much more likely to fly JQ than DJ.
