Yep, as per my earlier post:

50000 Wyndham points for $143 with a ten percent discount for AMEX, which can be transferred to AA at a rate of 17500 points to 7000 AA miles. You can buy two (promo is for US residents ) so $286 would net 35000 AA miles. Its pretty easy to get sidetracked and not read the whole thread, its hardly OT...., after all you are buying AA miles in a fashion.

I thought you could only get one per Wyndham account? I assume you can only transfer from your own wyndham
account to your own AA account?

Before you guys all get very excited you do know these are very limited, it's all over the blogosphere so your chances of getting are very low and they are likely to go in seconds and you'll have to be up at 3am to (probably) experience the dissapointment of missing out!

Just got my latest AA monthly eSummary and note that they have extended the offer (now 30% bonus miles) to 31 May 2012.

The bonus period has not been extended - that was always until May 31st. The 15% discount, which was in addition, has not been extended. That applied only for purchases between April 2-5.

I still do not understand the deal. You buy cheap points in a Hotel Loyalty program that generously transfers to a FF program. Is this some sort of auction or first come first served type of deal?

Not interested in theoretical. Any idea on success rates?

yeah - you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Wyndham hotels had a special deal, like Groupon, where they had sets of 50,000 points on offer for a cheap price.

Those points were enough for a two night stay (50K) for USD143. But you had to be one of the first people to buy the sets of point (there were 300 or 600 or something available?)

The deal stated that the points were enough for a two night stay, but it also stated that the points would just stay in your account for a year. So that theoretically leaves those points as your to be used for whatever you want - including transferring them to another program. There are some programs which allow you to transfer points in this way - for example Points.com - you can exchange miles in one program for another (with a hefty 'commission' to the company doing the transaction).

From my understanding, Wyndham is/was offering the points deal on several days. You were allowed to buy only one per day, but could buy a maximum of 6 in total (ie one each day if you were lucky to get it).

From what I have read on various blogs success rates are low and not sure I want to be up that early to then miss out! It's first come, first served and from all accounts thousands are trying.

Genious Idea Markis10 but how did you get around the US resident requirement won't your card bounce if you put your aussie Amex card number and a US address ?

Sounds like way too much effort. Could be good for that once in a blue moon holiday though if successful....

MUst admit I'm struggling to work out why you guys invest in AA miles when to an (uneducated) outsider the US deals seems so much better. Anyone want to enlighten me?

I agree with your scepticism, this is a lot to pay in advance, without the certainty of an award, although I suppose this airline won't file Chapter 11 again any time soon

The downside isn't the pay in advance.

The downside (same with any award redemption), is you have to plan and book in advance.

It isn't so much a downside to AA, just a general redemption issue period.
