So I have my first Status run coming up this weekend to take advantage of the DSC promotion. I called Qantas to merge 2 separate bookings together and the lady thought I was playing a joke on her when she brought up the flight info and then proceeded to ask me 3 times if I was sure I knew what I was doing. This is going to be a weekend to remember (i'm not sure if its something I would want to tell too many people about though)

I currently need 660 status credits to achieve WP for the first time with a rollover of Nov 30. This is what my weekend currently looks like:

Saturday 26[SUP]th[/SUP] May
Melbourne to Sydney 7:00 / 08:25 - JASA
Sydney to Alice Springs 09:50 / 12:35 - JASA
Alice Springs to Sydney 13:20 / 16:35 - YASA
Sydney to Melbourne 18:00 / 19:35 - YASA

Sunday 27[SUP]th[/SUP] May
Melbourne to Alice Springs – 08:35 / 11:00 - JASA
Alice Springs to Sydney 1:20 / 16:35 - JASA
Sydney to Melbourne 5:15 / 18:50 – JASA

EARN: 660 status credits + 13,945 + 5,000 = 18,945

TOTAL COST: $495 / 65,055 points

Nice one, pace yourself on the booze as the flying becomes tedious fairly quickly even in J!

I think many of us have had that experience. Wait until you get back on the aircraft at Alice Springs with what (I suspect) will be the same crew.

Is 2 days of your life and close to a $1,000 value really worth going to Platinum from, presumably, Gold?

It's going to be interesting with the FA's because it looks like I will have the same crew and planes on SYD/ASP/ASP/SYD. at least if there is a delay departing SYD it means the same flight will be delayed depart ASP back to SYD.

Looks like a nice little earner! Good luck!

Nice first post ...

This forum is full of people that do crazier things than this :)

Depends on what you perceive as 'value'. Personally I fly a bit domestic with work, though always in Y, a few times o/s with work in Y+ and maybe twice a year with the family usually no higher that Y+, so the ability to use the J & F lounges is a huge plus.

But certainly each to their own. For many of us you don't come to appreciate the status until you've attained it, and then know what its like on the other side.... :)

1. My issue the past 2 years is I have missed WP qualification by under 100 status credits each time. Both times I was unable to catch additional flights prior to rollover. Due to my business related flights throughout an average year I naturally accrue that many status credits, so based on the requal required for WP as opposed to the initial qualification, achieving WP this year should allow me to re-qualify in the years to come.

2. I do a fair bit of international Y travel, especially over the next 18 months. Having access to F lounges and the other benefits of WP and OWE are very worthwhile to me. I tend to accumulate a lot of FF points on a regular basis so to burn 65,055 on this has a very minor effect on my points balance.

If I was someone who did not spend a lot of time on planes then I really wouldn't bother trying to achieve WP, but based on the fact that I have flown 181 sectors in the past 18 months with no sign of slowing down i think the WP for $495 is worth it over the SG i currently hold. this DSC may only come around once so I figure I may as well take advantage of it and enjoy those extra benefits on a weekly basis for at least the next 18 months.

I also booked my first status run the other day, then rang up the next day to change dates.
Could tell the lady on the phone wanted to ask more about what I was thinking, but she left it at 'with all that flying in one day, no wonder you want to be in business'.

And don't forget that if you get the chance to requalify for WP, the bar will be lower the next year.

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

And if you're flying enough (particularly medium haul domestic or international) the wp point bonuses can add up.

I make it $500 or so according to the OP.

I say go for it if that's what you want. I personally wouldn't do that, but each to their own. It's an experience that's for sure. Of course, once you have WP it can become an expensive habit maintaining expensive wallet candy (if you don't actually use it for anything other than requalifying for WP again).

As someone once sung... Whatever gets you through the night ;)

I had this on a status run through Darwin a couple of years ago, although I was suspicious it may happen, I was very low maintenance on the way up!

It was the same crew when I did this status run last year, and coming back to make it worse, I was the only passenger in J. The FA asked if I had been dropping something off and I said I had .
