I'm thinking of extending an Oz - USA trip to an RTW in J doing Oz-USA-Europe-Asia-Oz. I've played around with itineraries and it doesn't seem much more expensive to go all the way round vs just doing a return (this will be a paid trip).

Wha'ts opaque to me is how the pricing adds up Is it based on a discount price for each and every flight, or is it sector based and there's a price with a min/max number of flights per sector.

The Oneworld site says
The fare you pay is based on the class you choose to fly, plus the number of oneworld continents you visit or pass through, (including your continent of origin and any continent in which you transfer)'.

Suggesting a min max, but also prompting the question of whether it would be better to start the trip overseas (viz NZ thread and QF rip off pricing).

Thanks
CM

There is a fixed price for each fare type - eg DONE4 - 4 continent D Class fare (ie business) - then the fare rules of effectively 16 segments and various other restrictions.
On top of this is airport taxes, alnding fees, extortionate UK APD depending on your route.

There are some definite advantages in starting in places other than Australia.
There is a website that tracks current prices.

Thanks to all
Excellent info and links,
Uncanny again that there's a $2k gap between NZ and Australia for a DONE4

nope, the Seychelles option no longer exists because no OW airlines fly there any more

*sigh* Still, there are some good prices there - A from NZ is not much more than D from OZ, and only $10K from Cairo. That'd rack up some impressive totals without having to do some ridiculous sectors, even if First isn't available on some of the shorter legs.

I would double check the base fares on E/F if available - they have been reports some are a little out of date.

Plus fuel surcharges depending on the airline who issues the ticket

Excluding SWP (Aust - NZ) and have a *ONE3 ex Asia, with a Au-Asia positioning flights, is another of the many possibilities
