Hmmm, not sure I've ever seen A&F and "bargains" all in the same sentence before

A&F in the states do have some good sales, and I have found their products to be of quite good quality - they never break, etc... just my waistline tends to expand over the course of ownership

Random trivia:

Stumbled upon an old Qantas timetable from 1963.

A trip from Sydney to London on the "Kangaroo" route would've taken you on a Qantas Boeing 707 jet, with sample routings:
  • Sydney - Jakarta - Singapore - Bangkok - New Delhi - Tehran - Istanbul - Rome - London; or
  • Sydney - Brisbane - Singapore - Bangkok - Kolkota (Calcutta) - Karachi - Cairo - Athens - Rome - London

Journeys from end-to-end would take "virtually" 23-24 hours, e.g. the first routing leaves Sydney at 1200h on Tuesday and arrives in London at 1050h on Wednesday; the second routing leaves Sydney at 1200h Thursday and arrives in London 1225h Friday. As a comparison, QF1 takes "virtually" 14 hours in non-DST: depart Sydney 1610h and arrive London 0635h.

The cost of the round trip from Sydney to London via Singapore in F (two-class plane: F and Y only) cost, at the time, 926 pounds and 5 shillings. I don't know how to convert that to today's currency, but I'd imagine that's quite a lot...

P.S. no flat bed seats in 1963......

Ohh Flashware you caught me out !! I only went in there to ogle the shirtless beefcake at the door, hypnotized by him I proceeded to think the merchandise was indeed a bargain

I think we need to organise a status run for SWMBO's where we take carry on only, right up to our last stop at Woodbury Common NJ after which we take full advantage of our elite luggage allowances & that of our spouses!

PS: Cove - you're invited because you know about all the good places to shop. Spouses very very scared!

Spouses hardly worry about their luggage allowances - they worry about the credit card bill!

The local radio station is part of the "give me 5 for kids". They are having a fundraising auction on Wed morning that I thought might interest some members-this is from the station website

It also helps that the Positano restaurant at Woodbury gets you AA dining miles. And a Hampton Inn next door for a mattress run!

I've never stayed at a Hampton Inn - I've tended to avoid them in favour of the Hilton Garden Inns or Hiltons. Are they reasonable? I don't mind basic - just as long as the beds are comfortable.

Maybe now a "Black Belt w Bar".

SWMBO sees my checked allowance as actually hers when we travel!
I've always been told on our DONE4s that I am not allowed to take a bag but mrsdrron gets 4:p
;):p

HI's are quire formularic but the formula is not bad. No mini bar but the bed I find really comfortable.

The biggest variance I find is with breakfast, but a coffee and a bit of toast is all I really need.

The newer ones are quite reasonable.Definitely a notch below HGIs but we find them acceptable. But having tried the HI at Woodbury and the HGIs either north or south of Woodbury we would now choose either of the HGIs.

I prefer HGI over Hampton Inns - all HGI have a coin laundry - so we try to schedule at least one or two on our driving trips around the US. Also as a diamond you get a free breakfast and they are not too bad - especially the hot waffles , and most HGI now have a restaurant - and in some locations that is better that the fast food nearby.

Just had a ph call and have been advised that one of my major suppliers is now going to accept AMEX they have never accepted CC's at all.

Woo hoo,

FASA all round if it is correct...

Yay. In a world of bad cc news a good result.

You sure? I seem to think that we worry about the credit card bill, not SWMBO!

Ahh, the waffles! Yes! HGI Krakow had some great toppings (fresh fruit of all sorts, strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce) however HGI Glasgow didn't have quite the same, in fact their toppings were a bit odd.... none-the-less, waffle went down like a treat
