How good is the massage in the first class lounge in SYD?

I have neck/shoulder massage and facial when I travel through MEL/SYD international. The MEL staff are great. Looking forward to my next visit end of OCT.

Looking forward to my next visit in 3 weeks!

So 2 weeks ago, flew out SYD to AKL and went up to the Flounge a few hours before my flight. Went straight to the Spa and told that they no longer offered the Full Body massage even though it was on the massage menu. Being told that, I sent an email to customer care and got back this reply:

Dear tm.smile,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about your experience in the
First Lounge in Sydney on 22 June 2012.

I can confirm that the full body massage is no longer available at the spa,
and apologise that the options have not yet been updated and for any

Has anyone gotten the 50min session in the past few weeks? Or this this another 'enhancement'?

What time does the SYD spa open?

0900 IIRC.

The Spa in both SYD and MEL is really hit and miss.

Last month friend and I both had appointments. His was first and he came out after 17 minutes and was disappointed at the entire process. Being a 30 minute session I was amazed he came out after 17.
Then I went for my facial, came out 45 minutes later and was soooo refreshed and feeling fantastic.

This was prior to QF11 on a Sunday.

Obviously we didn't get the same therapist.

So as always, YMMV.

That explains why my 50mins only lasted around 20mins last month:!:

I only booked the 50 min gig after being given the option by the First host that called me the day before:confused: All confirmed & booked the day before & I was a little confused why I was sent packing 30mins early - I remained suitably upset until I walked out & was distracted by a glass of something.

IMHO the spa management/reception staff are the weakest link in the Flounge chain.

Will be back in the Sydney F loung on the 13th with Mrs Ansett and looking forward to our spa treatment, of which we have had a few:p, we have never had reason to complain or be disapointed, this also goes for the Melbourne F lounge.

The last time I had a 50min massage Dec 2010 and every time since then been told only 30min is available now otherwise they can't fit as many in - my responce cut out Y's (sorry Y and good for you here in Aust) but if I'm paying F I still beleive the spa should be available to J and F pax like BA and the other F/J lounges that only offer these facilites to high end ticketing.

I had the 50 min in Feb 2010, 30 mins max since then.

I find the girl at the SYD F lounge to be.... How do I put it...... Receptive to a mirror attitude.

Ever since I have been overly courteous and polite, I have had a high success rate, even when not flying F.

Perhaps coincidence, but manners seem to work for me in this particular situation :)

I generally get really good luck at airports! I've once gotten away with a 30kg bag from LHR to SYD on QF in Y, and countless heavy bags from HKG ;-) Will perhaps next time act like I'm a regular, this time I perhaps seemed like a newbie and asked her the different treatments available...Did end up getting about 30mins though.

If the universally accepted :- hello, please, thank you aren't good enough......IMO, lack of manners or courtesy - is not the problem!

Not disagreeing with your perspective, just saying..... Since I (in my frame of mind) have ignored that perspective, I seem to have had good results ;)

I usually only travel Premium and use (enjoy) the F lounge by virtue of my WP status; however, I think what you're proposing is fair enough. I know if I were paying the mega $ to travel F, I would want to avail myself of the full range F benefits and not miss out on them taken up by Y and J pax.

Had a massage in the Sydney lounge couple of weeks ago and must say it was disappointing, was offered a foot massage and it lasted barely 15 minutes.

Oh that's bad luck, I had one 4 weeks ago, 30 min slot - was amazing, made me all dozy and relaxed for my flight! Very zen!

As one of the recent Flounge run group that got an appointment in SYD, it was fantastic. Most relaxing! I'd avail myself anytime I could get an appointment

Same with me. Put me into gaga land as well. I turned up asking if my daughter could get a manicure (she was meeting me later in the Flounge) but they said they would be closed by the time she arrived, but they then kindly offered me either a head & shoulder or foot massage before they closed. Was very impressed.

I am one of those undeserving Y pax who was given an F-Lounge pass in the hope it would make me forgive Qantas management for their extreme actions last year.

That was a lost cause, but the spa was very nice! Perhaps they should ban CL and F passengers from the spa because their sense of entitlement is ruining the whole atmosphere. Might explain the attitude of some staff - though my experience was fantastic from the minute I walked in the lounge.

Since it is likely to be my last time I probably should have sat down for lunch to sample the full F-Lounge offerings, but there is something sad about dining alone and the timing wasn't great anyway. Given the choice again ..... I would still make the spa my first priority and the 30-minute "invigorating" massage was great.

But I have a question (and sorry if it has been covered before) :- is it appropriate to tip the masseuse?

Good question. But I thought tipping is not widespread in Australia? (E.g., taxi drivers don't expect a tip, just round up so no coins)?

Which treatments are most recommended? Have a flight out of SYD in a few weeks. Should I be lucky enough that there are slots available, wondering what is best.
