Hi all,

I had quite a dull trip to Auckland this week. I somehow managed to book both trips, over and back, on Jetconnect flights. Sure, they were the normal Qantas flights, but I had a couple of quite pleasant experiences on both legs.

The flight over (QF141) was early. Sure it left Sydney at 6:15 am, and I really don't do mornings. NO! I mean it landed around half an hour early! That was a great bonus in New Zealand. That's never happened to me before!

And on the flight back. Well, no such luck. But it was the "Jean Batten", a brand new B737-800. It's so new and shiny. Screens in each seat, and each seat has USB connections next to the monitors. Why don't the normal Qantas 737s have this? That was one bonus. The other, partly to do with Jetconnect, was my rapid transit through baggage and customs. My bag was in the first ten out - and I was flying economy!

So ... in short ... top marks for Jetconnect.

Nice to read your report! Did you use the USB port? I wonder what peoples experiences are. I know they say you can charge, or plug it in to look at photos/music ? I'm just not sure, never been on a flight with one.

+1

I had the OMG 5am MEL-AKL-LAX recently.
The crew were great. :D
The new 738 with IFE and power / Y seats was better than what I expected.

Happy to fly with them again.

a recent trip of QF25 with jetconnect from MEL-AKL that i took was somewhat quite the opposite! The plane was old - and i say OLD because the plastics inside the aircraft where not white, nor cream but yellow, aged yellow! And to be frank the plane stank.

The FA's were grumpy and can you believe, had the audacity to ask me to move from my J seat to a Y seat to allow a couple ( that had individualy booked tickets one in J and the other in Y) to take my seat so they could sit together. When i asked "will i get a refund", the response i got from the FA was, and i quote, " please sir dont be a nuisance, it is only a 3 hr flight im sure you will be fine back in economy" and then litterly pushed me down the cabin. Needless to say i was furious!

I will avoid Jetconnect from now on i think!

flew QF 131 on Thursday in 4A and must say that the seat is the most uncomfortable seat I have ever sat in...Talk about a sore back !!!!...but I guess the extra legroom plus the vacant middle seat was great compensation...The dinner was edible but missed out on icecream as I was asleep...Great crew with lots of water runs...all in all a great flight :)

Really? Why did you find it uncomfortable? Couldn't you fit?
(as in I mean row 4 armrests are stationary as the AVOD is in them)

I find row 4 perfectly comfortable, reclined slightly as the seat base moves forward too and you have loads of leg room!

Hey Pauly7...No I am not fat !!!!...But I am 6ft 3 in and 92kgs and it was the middle of the seat that had a stiff kink in it and hence annoyed the middle of my back...Thought there might have been a control setting to adjust but nothing could be done...Yes, the seat slides forward, the screen is just great and even better is the provision to use your own usb stick...Guess when the seats have had more use then maybe the seats will soften up...Now waiting to see what gives on the return via Sydney with the 330.

Agree with pfyii - I do not like those "Marc Newson" designed economy seats at all.

They are rather shorter than the older style and the head rest slides up more to compensate.

At 183cm this leaves a pit at the base of my shoulders that becomes really uncomfortable during a 3+ hour flight. (Either that or have no head support).

Hi All. Had a bit of a scratch around but could only find this thread which I hate to drag back up but...

I am flying to AKL from BNE on Friday (direct QF125 service). Now I was under the impression that all the trans-tasman 737-800 services operated by Jetconnect have the in-seat entertainment. However, when I go to the QF website to look at what's showing it says "This flight features our award-winning Mainscreen entertainment" and lists one film. I had a look at the SYD-AKL flights and it says the same thing. I have previously flown SYD-AKL and it definitely had the in-seat entertainment system. Is this just a case of the QF IT people being slow to update the website? I just want to know if I need to load up my iPad or not!

Load up your iPad just in case. I had a flight last year that was operated by an older 738 with no AVOD/newer interior. Later I saw that same aircraft at the domestic terminal, so I figured it had been subbed in for another. It's always going to be a little bit of a lottery, so best to be prepared.

I just find A320's more comfortable than 738's. the extra bit of cabin width is really good, I always feel squeezed in on the 738.

QF BNE-AKL has been a 738 with IFE in the past month.
Today it is ZK-ZQE
See The QANTAS Source - QANTAS Flight Tracker. and enter QF125
Occasionally might be non IFE but unusual.
