OK on the subject of best and worst.

What is the best place you have ever traveled to and why?

And the worst?

And out of respect, please no jokes about Adelaide.

The Dyslexic Traveler

Best: Malaysia. Feel more at home there than I even have in my own city! Looking forward to moving then when I have more control over my career. Been back a dozen times or more, well aware of political and racial issues but still keen to give it a go.

Worst: well, I can't say according to the rules of the OP. Let's just say Florence is a close second; I don't like art so I found this place just had nothing at all to offer, other than overpriced and substandard accommodation and food.

Best: USA - Disneyland/world are fantastic fun. Also, designer shopping is awesome and the extensive network of discount shopping outlets (selling $20 RL polo shirts among other things) make it a great place to be.

Worst: Rotorua, NZ - serious lack of decent places to stay, a whole pile of undesirable family members of mine live there and apart from anything else, the place just literally stinks.

That is why God gave planning permission for The Hilton in Auckland - it is in driving distance! :p

The best ....... So many to choose from........I suppose it all depends on the context

Best: Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. I love elephants so spending the day there was magical!

Worst: Belize. After spending time in Mexico and Guatemala, I found Belize very ordinary.

Best: Oslo in summer. Wow.

Worst: wanganui, NZ. Simply no reason to go there; it has nothing going for it.

Best - Hong Kong (honeymoon;))

Worst - Hyderabad ($20 Corona's and bombs going off around the place made it a very quiet week in HYD)

Best: Venice. In winter. One day I'll go with someone I truly love :(

Worst: South side Chicago. Like living in "Grand theft auto"

* gasp! *

The Best: Kenya and specifically The Masai Mara and then Treetops. Just incredible.

The Worst: France, obviously. It would be so much better without the French. :p

Best: Mark Webber winning Monaco F1 2012 and being there for it.
Worst: Nice Railway Station and the pickpockets. didn't actually get stung but watched plenty of them
and all only 30mins apart

Best : langkawi - for the honeymoon.

Worst : Los Angeles - I took an instant dislike to the place.

Best: Adelaide Hills. It's home for me, and I'm very happy that people from the eastern states would never consider living here.

Worst: That's more difficult.

India, because there is so much poverty and it is very difficult to change your situation.
Mexico (Tijuana), because life is hard and they have a (false) nirvana across the border.

Jakarta,
Manila,
Sydney,
Melbourne.

Best: Nozawa Onsen, Japan. Beautiful village, awesome skiing

Worst: LA can be hard, they say you really need to know the cool spots. Clearly I don't

Best: Helsinki in the summer but I do love HK too!
Worst: Port Augusta, flew there for $20 some time ago, just because I could. Flew back a few hours later but literally lost interest in <10 minutes. :D otherwise, some parts of south China are pretty crummy.

Worst: South side Chicago. Like living in "Grand theft auto"

My memory of South side Chicago was when I was going to White Sox vs Red Sox game at US Cellular Field: as I was driving towards the ballpark, there was a queue of cars paying a young guy $20USD to get into the carpark. We paid it as well. Then when we get in, we get to the real entry where we had to pay another $20USD. I asked why and they said that the boy outside just rip all of us off and collect the money!

Luckily I asked him for extra receipt for the additional "fee" I paid. I got it and I claimed it as expense

Anyway, back to topic:

Best: Moorea, French Polynesia. Absolute paradise without being over commercialised .... yet.

Worst: Not Adelaide (I grew up there!), Not Chicago (live there on the north side though!), in fact, I have not yet found a bad place. It is the people who keeps the city interesting. Yes there are dull place but not worst places.

Best: koh samui

Great people and food easy to get around. Not commercial like coughet (yet) seems lots of people still don't know about it or it's just easier going to coughet.

Worst:

Can't say I have one yet

I have a love hate relationship with most places. Must say my best period of time in one place was jabiru and worst was Melbourne. But I could equally say both places have also been the opposite, and the same can be said (both good and bad) for may other places around Oz and the world.

edit: actually, Dachau is one place I'll never find good no matter how many times I visit.

Worst: Port Augusta, flew there for $20 some time ago, just because I could. Flew back a few hours later but literally lost interest in

It's ok once you visit a few times, excellent indian dinner at the Standpipe.

I agree, one time your experience in a place can be terrible, the next time the weather is different, the people are different and you enjoy it.

Best - Berlin. Absolutely amazing, spectacular in so many different ways. Culturally and socially I guess it suits me perfectly.

Worst - Ko Samui and Ko Phan-Ang. No sir I don't go to tropical islands to buy your coughpy suits. The Thai islands have gone the way of Bali in being just full of people who want to rip you off (or worse... Give you happy endings!). The scenery is pretty enough I guess but everything else is down right ordinary. And having my drink spiked on Ko Phan-Ang was just the cherry on top for a really awful adventure.
