The Best and worst Places you've been to?

In my limited travels the best for me was Boston with San Fransisco a very close second. Port Moresby is the worst so far.

BEST: Oh how do you choose! I have to go with my best experience - the top of Mt Kinabalu, Malaysia.

WORST: Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. A nice place, but one of few places where I have no interest in ever going back. Too man-made tourist place for the Northern Neighbours.

BEST - I always seem to have heaps of fun in Singapore or HK

WORST - Nigeria, in particular, LAGOS and everything connected with this city, starting with the Airport.

BEST
London - All of the places that I had heard of as a kid within walking distance. So much to do I was never bored. Transport is incredibly easy, unless you want to drive. I was also spoiled with good weather last time I was there.
Berlin - A big surprise actually. The captital of cool in Europe, especially if you are into nightclubs. Shame about TXL being a dump.
Barcelona - Reminds me of Sydney without the Australians to ruin it. The Spanish may not be very efficient, but they are so friendly. Plus the shopping is the cheapest in the EU thanks to the recession.
Hong Kong - East meets west at its best. Feels less controlled than Tokyo, like you can do as you please.

Paris - Unhelpful French people. Very dirty. Too many lines. Plus its full of American tourists.
Bangkok - Unbearable humidity. Live power lines hanging so low that you have to duck to walk down the footpath. Too many touts selling tat.

BEST
San Francisco - For a long time this city has been my "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto" city. So to see it and the bridge did not disappoint.
Hong Kong - The only word I can use to describe that place is "WOW". Also I would happily travel back there just to get lunch.


WORST
No where a yet, I've so far been able to find the charm in everywhere that I've gone... Yes I've even enjoyed places like LA, despite what people may write about the place on forums like this.

Worst: Gloucester, UK. So close to beautiful places (Cheltenham, Cotswolds) but an unutterable dump. I had the pleasure of living there for 6 months.

Its best and worst 'PLACES'...not people!!!

Yeah, but the difference between a good place and a bad place is often the people. Think about a really nice hotel you've stayed at. If the people at the hotel treated you badly, would you still go back there just because the fixtures where all gold?

The world is full of wondrous places, it's the people who are there that is the difference between fantastic place and a "nice scenery but I'll never go back" place

We were in Paris in June 2006 for four or five days and had a terrific time.

Best - Osaka. The perfect size, fantastic food, extremely friendly people, easy to get around and loved not seeing any other Westerners for hours on end. A real surprise packet.
Hoi Ann (Vietnam). My ideal beach-side town. Lazy wandering around, nice beach, nice cheap resorts, great restaurants, great locals, great shopping. Extremely relaxing.

Worst - Bangkok. Dirty, smelly, confusing, disorganised, noisy, humid etc. A true city of sin where there are no rules.

Best - Really enjoyed Airlie Beach as was with some good people and in a nice penthouse. Had a great time and met some really good people from Europe who I am still friends with today (3 yrs later).

Worst - Kuta in Bali. Too many bogan Australians going crazy and just too much in general. Worst of both worlds, chaotic and full of young, bogan Australians who were displaying their bad side.

Best - Berlin. A modern history nerd's delight.

Worst - toss up between London and Sydney*. I don't particularly hate them, but they definitely didn't live up to the hype for me, especially given how expensive they are. I suspect that in the case of London, the "motherland" nostalgia along with it being an (obviously) anglophone city make it more prominent in Australian's minds than a more objective analysis would deem appropriate.

This is hard as I love different places for different things but after some thought...
Best: LA and in particular the view from Mulholland drive. The vibe & excitement I get from being there is not replicated elsewhere. (runner up here is Seminyak in Bali)
Worst: Easy.... Gary in Indiana. (home of Micheal Jackson & family) Smelters, factories, trailer parks & dodgy casinos in a terrible enviroment. (runner up here is Kutu in Bali)

Best: Difficult. San Francisco and New York easily rate among my favourite cities. Milford Sound was easily the most beautiful place I've been to.

Worst: Going to be either Los Angeles or Noumea, although I've been told by several people that I didn't go to the right places in LA.

BEST: New York. Love it. Going back for the third time in three years in... oooh let me see... 29 days (who's counting?)
WORST: well probably not the worst but I've been pretty underwhelmed by my two visits to Washington DC. Probably due to circumstances really but I guess that affects what you end up thinking of a place you visit.

Best: Burgundy in France. Beautiful and outstanding vin. Sigh. Close second would have to be the magnificent streets of Paris and the buzz of the scooters.

Worst: well, aside from Port Augusta for work, which really doesn't count, I'd have to say downtown Tokyo. I felt that it was like an endless Parramatta. Having said that, I really loved Japan itself and in particular its magnificent people.

Best: Rhodes. The old city blew me away, and Lindos is a great seaside town.

Worst: Same holiday - Mykonos. The planets just didn't align.

Best - anywhere in Switzerland - I would move there tomorrow if I could.

Worst - Alice Springs....it is hot, and boring, and there is nothing there!!!!!!!

Best - NZ south island. I'm pretty much a natural scenery person, preferring the peace and quiet, and the pretty sights.
Worst - Kuta beach. Overrun by tourists, mostly Aussies. Also being constantly offered services... "sir... transport? massage? happy ending?"

Notable mentions:
Lucerne: I find it a nice city that's not too big, with the beautiful lake, and not far away from alps.
Innsbruck: Another pretty town, especially in the old town area.
Kaohsiung: Not a special place for tourists as such, but while it's quite developed, the people there retain the old-time friendliness and happiness. Some of the best people I met are from there.
Kangaroo Island: Felt like I was a world away, even though it's not that far away from the city we shall not name.
Pisa: To this day, I still haven't worked out how they managed to turn a dodgy building into a tourist attraction.
Venice: It's so crowded these days it's simply not enjoyable at all. Went to The Venetian in Macau a month later, and as fake as it was, I actually preferred The Venetian when it's at a quiet time - and they sing you a song if you take a gondola ride here, unlike in Venice.
