The Best and worst Places you've been to?

Hard one to answer

For best - so many, I'm thinking Sossussvlei in Namibia, the bay of Kotor in Montenegro and for cities I'd take NYC, Barcelona, Cape Town and London. Beijing when the wind is blowing and the skies are clear.

Worst - I try to be positive so don't really have worsts, but Manila and Jakarta come to mind, but maybe I haven't given them a chance properly. And Beijing when it's smoggy.

Really cant answer this as no real best or worst.
In the great category-interacting with a sealion in the Galapagos
-kayaking amongst the whales Inside Passage Alaska.
-watching 8 polar bears feeding on a whale carcass,Svalbard,Norway.
-sitting amongst the penguins,Commonwealth bay,Antarctica(or on Macquarie Island).
-Coast of Maine when eating lobsters.
In the cities category-New York.have spent at least 6 months there over many visits.Still new experiences every time I go.
-Bangkok-even planning an apartment rental there for a couple of months.
-Sydney.But couldn't live there again.
-virtually any city of Japan.But basically because I just love the Japanese culture.
Then there are places I loved in the 70s,80s but now avoid-Hong Kong
-las Vegas.
-Dubbo.
-Port Moresby.
-Istanbul.
Then places that I dont like but still wouldn't put in the worst category-Manilla.
-Kuta
-Hoi Ann.

So there you are.Some places on my like list are on others worst list but some on my avoid list are on others best list.Just proves we are all unique.

Best: NYC, in particular Central Park after a blizzard or some decent snowfall. The white blanket that covers the park is truly magical. I felt like I was in another universe.
Anywhere in Ireland on a cold winter's night in a traditional pub with live diddly dee music while nursing a pint of 'real' Guinness. Bliss!
Edinburgh - magical place.
Istanbul - was blown away at how much I loved this city.
Hobart - yep! One of the most underrated cities in this country.
Wellington - yep! one of the most underrated cities ever.

Worst: don't know about worst. Maybe overrated would be more appropriate for my answer - Darwin, Noumea, Amsterdam, Glasgow.

Dont know how you could say that. Canberra's a magnificent city of tremendous physical beauty and amenity. granted the satellite structure creates concentrations of extreme suburbia, but pound for pound it's a great place in my view.

Best: Surfers Paradise for a bowling trip. Temperature in the high 20s every day, everything you wanted was close by, and the nightclubs were brilliant (I highly recommend a trip to Shooters. Best club ever)

Worst: The virgin terminal at Sydney Airport. Don't ask.

As a lifelong Canberran I wouldn't live anywhere else. But obviously I haven't so how can I comment? My husband came here 13 years ago and he also says he wouldn't live anywhere else. Except New York. Maybe.

I agree, it has the right balance, not city and not bush.......the people can be very well travelled, articulate and appreciative.

Some of the best I've seen this year:
New York, just so much to do and see. All of those television shows come to life.
Boston, so much history and as the locals say, this is where the action was and then we sent the paperwork to,
Philadelphia, not on the foreign tourist hot spot list but definitely worth a visit.

Best: Venice, Prague, Paris.

Worst: Still looking, but hope to never find it.

Best: lots to choose from - Mountains of the Moon in Uganda must remain the highlight though. Cities - perhaps Berlin at the end of 1989, such times we will never seen again.

Worst: I hated Athens but it was so long ago I can't quite remember why now. Don't love Paris I must say. I need to give it another chance though.

Best place: Queenstown, New Zealand

Simply an amazing place, lots of childhood memories. Just my favourite place to be.

Worst place: Queenstown, Tasmania

It was a dump and nothing like the aforementioned place of the same name.

Best: Bhutan....if you haven't seen the firedance of the naked monks, or climbed to the Tiger's Nest temple then you really haven't lived.
Worst: Port Moresby. I lived there for 10 years. Ye gods!!!

Best : London with the exception of Heathrow T3. London cabbies at least to my experince excellent and knowlegeable, yes london is expensive but you know that before you get there. Love the london pubs

Worst : Paris great city but dirty and becareful of the Romani's aka gypsies. When you are warned on the aiport train to be ware of picpockets that is bad sign. Paris aiport is worse than Lax if that can be true.

Best - Berlin. Absolutely amazing, spectacular in so many different ways. Culturally and socially I guess it suits me perfectly.

Worst - Ko Samui and Ko Phan-Ang. No sir I don't go to tropical islands to buy your coughpy suits. The Thai islands have gone the way of Bali in being just full of people who want to rip you off (or worse... Give you happy endings!). The scenery is pretty enough I guess but everything else is down right ordinary. And having my drink spiked on Ko Phan-Ang was just the cherry on top for a really awful adventure.

Yes best for me is Berlin, so many layers of history and culture in one place and all accessible, even if sometimes sad. Stoic, sophisticated, hospitable people.

Worst is Karachi, dangerous (life threatening sometimes), polluted and with such sad people who seem to deserve much better than their leaders have delivered. I've been to poorer countries where the people are much happier (eg India). You must be constantly be on you guard or have trusted hosts - probably as bad as you get without being in a country at war.

By far the best for me is Alaska and like a few others Port Moresby is definitely the worst.

I haven't travelled all that extensively, but my favourite place so far would be Tuscany - we stayed for a while in Sienna and loved it. Also loved Paris, Monte Carlo and Positano.

Worst - hmmm, hard to judge.

• Didn't like LA much
• Closer to home, I lived in Paraburdoo for 3 years, but enjoyed it (I'm sure many wouldn't)
• Invercargill was a hole
• To go against the grain, I personally hated Venice in the winter time. We stayed near Piazza San Marco, and it flooded every day we were there from high tides (not that uncommon in winter apparently), and up through the stormwater/sewers. I can still smell it:
