Missy Higgins rants about Vegetarian options on-board

I believe JessicaTam has raised the vegetarian meals being awful topic before, so it's not just celebs who find them bad. I haven't tried them, but go to a lovely vegan cafe once a week or so and expect it'd never beat the food I get there, but nor should it really. Likewise, I don't expect the vegan cafe to organise transport to/from or entertainment of some kind ;)

1. I liked Ms Higgins' post and agree with it because
2. QF VGML is rubbish. And the same meal for the last two years (at least) even in J
3. Like DrA I do not have a choice about the meal I get so I will complain long and hard
4. I like her music, and once flew to AKL for a concert
5. I believe she does shave her armpits (having been close enough to notice)
6. WTF? Get a life people. It's just someone expressing an opinion like we all do. No need to jump down her throat if you disagree.

And I do- when it's practical. The point is that I shouldn't have to.

I've paid for catering just like everyone else, so I should get edible food like everyone else. If they can't offer edible food to meet people's dietary needs, then they shouldn't offer the option in the first place, or the cost of the catering built into the ticket should be reimbursed.
Fly TK in J - either long or short haul. Brilliant vego meals. I showed pics to a member of the QF customer experience team and they were quite surprised at what could be done.

I've been on the ASP-MEL (and ASP-SYD) flight. I think the regular Y-class "lunch" was just a single sandwich. I remember that it was pretty much nothing for a relatively long flight.

So the vegetarian offering seems to be in the same ball park... size and offering wise. Maybe QF need to offer a tastier sandwich?

Well said. Unlike many on here, she didn't carry in like it was the end if the world. She was merely stating an opinion in an online forum. If you don't like that, I can't understand why you are on this site.

To quote Missy:
Oh for God's sake, I was having a laugh people! Not a rant! Grow a sense of humour

And the regular Y-class meals, on the same flight, are (unfortunately) quite a laugh too! :( :)

At least those meals will change week to week, season to season.

The dodgy breakfast on QF511 hasn't changed much.......sometimes fruit & nut....sometimes cornflakes........always the horrible, rotten thing in the bag:shock:

There are lots of things we shouldn't have to do, but we do it because when you cut to the chase, we are responsible for our own health. I don't eat bread but I don't expect the airlines to provide me with a substitute if sandwiches are being served.

Well said JessicaTam! Don't shoot the messenger! My husband is a vegetarian and has for years put up with very ordinary meals on planes when we travel. He doesn't even complain any more and often just brings something he likes from home or gets something at the airport. It would be wonderful for him and his fellow veggies to receive a quality meal on board next time they fly!

It would be wonderful for all travellers to receive a quality meal onboard. I don't think the issue is about being vegetarian.

Maybe it's ASP? I flew SYD-ASP last week in J and when the meal arrived, I laughed because I honestly thought the cabin crew were joking when they offered me the normal meal. I forget what it was, but I would not have fed it to my dog. Luckily they had some spares from down the back, so I had one of those (some kind of heated wrap)

Totally agree. I've done it a few times now in both J and Y and it must be the most underwhelming QF catering experience in Australia for a medium haul domestic route.

Missy had a valid point. But what wasn't mentioned was the equally bad offerings for the regular "lunch" in Y and the (almost complete joke) offering in J!.

I've had 10 x better quality meal offerings CBR-MEL in J compared with ASP-MEL in J.

If you want to have a good meal, go to a restaurant. Planes have limited facilities and dare I say it, pre-prepared meals and no chefs on board. What do you expect, really ?
