Well, after considering all the feedback, I am happy to announce that AFF Gathering #3 will happen on the weekend of October 23-25, 2009 in Sydney. (So, you can take advantage of sales :) )

I am currently proposing that it will follow the same basic format of the previous gatherings:

1) Friday evening: Wecome drinks
2) Saturday: Local sightseeing adventure
3) Saturday evening: Official dinner
4) Sunday Lunch, and possible sightseeing

Now, I would like some help in filling in the details of the above, in order to come up with an itinerary for the weekend. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have no particular fixed ideas on what to do, but will throw out the suggestion of a Sydney Airport Tarmac Tour (Airside Tarmac Tours).

Suggestions for drinking holes, and restaurant venues also gladly received.

Also, if anyone can help out with assistance in making this happen, please put your hand up.

Please advise on this thread whether you will be:
a) Platinum: Confirmed
b) Gold: Probable
c) Silver: Possible
d) Bronze: Scratching

P.S. Expect Gathering #4 to be in Brisbane in 2010.

Put me down as a Platinum, I'll definitely be there.

Maybe the only time I'll ever be Platinum so I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Yes, QF009 and I have discussed behind the scenes have agreed to run with it in Sydney.

It's in the calendar, and a thread is coming very shortly
OK, I'm in (Plat) :p I have booked flights on Air Toyota and will be staying at Hotel KPC:!:

Gold (leaning towards Platinum) for Friday drinks and Saturday dinner.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Gold for the moment - may or may not be in the country during October; we'll see....

Gold for now, but will try and book flights this weekend.

Love that the Airside Tarmac Tours website still lists the 747-400 as the biggest plane in the world, and even has a picture of an A380 next the the info on the 747. But would love to do a tour... shame cameras aren't allowed on the tour.

Platinum for myself and the other half! :D

SYDMEL flight booked on the QF sale, now to try to book JQ30 MELSYD on Oct23 so we can pop by the Flounge. :D

OK we're now booked on JQ30 on Friday the 23rd. MEL-SYD dep 1200. Anyone wants to join us for a Flounge run? :)

Platinum for Mr & Mrs!

I don't know about the airport tour though - I'll sit in the QP and watch everyone else

my line of work has had me airside at SYD a number of times before so I doesn't hold a huge interest

Can I suggest Lowenbrau - a German Beer Hall (and restaurant) at the Rocks for Saturday night dinner?

I will book a Harbour View apartment at the Mercure (Darling Harbour)for the weekend: ($519.00)

"...2 Bedroom Apartment 2 Queen Beds Harbour View Exquisitely spacious, this huge apartment offers an open plan living area, expansive balcony, full European style kitchen, laundry facilities, two marble bathrooms, fantastic harbour and city views, a TV and DVD player, Up to 5 adults..."

Bring on the gathering!

Mr!

Put me down as possible (it would probably be the Saturday and the Sunday lunch activities only).

Hi oz_mark,
Put me down as Gold/Probable for Saturday and Sunday please.
Cheers,
Peter.

I've booked a night at the Hilton on the AMEX free night redemption, as well as a night at the Westin as an SPG free weekend night.

Industry Dinner should go ahead as per previous Gatherings. I hear at least 1 airline has been very receptive to the invitation.;)

If I can make this Do, you can bet I'll try my hardest to do so! ;) :D

I have to say I'm more favoured to the MEL FL (note: scientifically not a fair comparison: SYD = many visits vs. MEL = 1 visit) - smaller  and more intimate.

I searched through the entire RADelaide thread and found no reference to this industry dinner you're talking about. :p
