Well, the Second Test has started disasterously for the Aussies.
Simon Katich was run out without facing a ball
A diamond duck. Very rare to see in a match, let alone a Test Match. Plus Anderson was on a hat tick after dismissing Ponting for a Golden Duck.

Follow the scorecard and ball-by-ball description here

Thank God Watson & Hussey have put on a decent partnership and Shane just hit a half century. Lunch, 3/94

Second over after lunch, Watson c Pietersen b Anderson 51. Watson again fails to convert a good start

I was very happy to wake up early this morning and see the first 3 overs :D

Had to record it and replay it just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming too.

Lets not forget though that England did appallingly in their first innings (in BNE) and came back fighting to some amazing scores, so all is not lost for Australia.

I was wondering what a duck without facing a ball was called! I’ll add that to the same area of my brain that stores the Albatross of golf.

Except the main difference - an albatross is extremely good and a diamond duck is extremely bad ;)

I do believe (Australian) history has been made today  :p - 2 wickets, first over of the match, no runs on the board.

I have asked the question to Alex Edghill at allexperts.com:

"Katich has just been dismissed for a diamond duck, then Ponting next ball for a Golden (first over, Second Test, Ashes Test Series in Adelaide).

When was the last time it happened in Australian Test Cricket?"

Let's see what he comes back with. There have been 24 diamond ducks in Test Cricket.

Hussey still there on 71

Mr Cricket is now officially "nervous", Haddin 19, Ausssies 5/196. Thank God for Huss and Watson.

But the pendulum swing back to England as:

MEK Hussey c Collingwood b Swann 93
(then next ball)
RJ Harris lbw b Swann 0

Thankfully Xavier Doherty averted the hat trick. 7/212

I wasn’t sure about the second decision (Harris), I thought there’d been a tiny nick on the side of the bat, but it was really hard to be certain, and I believe the rules are if you’re not certain it goes back to the original decision? Snicko also apparently has 2 noises, but the 3rd umpire would have had that information on hand.

*shrugs*

Hmmm.... Does Australia need to go back to the drawing board?

XJ Doherty run out 6, Australia 8/226. Haddin on 40

England have taken the new ball and according to cricinfo:
there's movement straight away! Some curve through the air and real movement off the seam away from the bat, and Siddle doesn't even get close to it
I'm sure Siddle can't wait to bowl...

Good day for England but not a great day. Middle session got away a little I think.
