Changes to QF lounges in Singapore

We are excited to let you know that we are building a new First Lounge in Singapore, due to open at the end of the year. The new First Lounge will offer greater space and additional seating for our guests when it opens; in the meantime we are making a change to our Singapore lounges to enhance the current lounge experience.

What’s changing?
The locations of the existing First Lounge and Business Lounge have been temporarily switched and the access policy amended as follows:
Temporary First Lounge (previously the Business Lounge):
· customers travelling in First on Qantas, British Airways or a oneworld carrier;
· customers travelling in Business or Club World on Qantas, British Airways or a oneworld carrier;
· Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyers;
· British Airways Gold Executive member; and
· oneworld Emerald members.
Temporary Business Lounge (previously the First Lounge):
· Qantas Gold Frequent Flyers;
· Qantas Club members;
· British Airways Silver Executive Club members;
· oneworld Sapphire members;
· Jetstar Business Max fare customers.

Getting to your lounge
The Qantas and British Airways Lounges are located in Terminal 1. Turn left after Immigration and follow the airport signage ‘Lounges’ to the escalator. If transiting, proceed towards Concourse D and take the escalator adjacent to the Madame Butterfly retail store.
At the top of the escalator follow the signage ‘Qantas/British Airways Lounge’.
First Lounge guests – continue straight ahead
Business Lounge guests – turn right

That Temporary Business lounge is going to be rather full.

Assume the Temporary First Lounge will be only a part of the old Business lounge, whilst areas are renovated??

First great that we now have confirmed dates for the new Newsom designed lounges.

Second Interesting new access policies for the temp lounges. Quite telling that Temp F lounge includes J pax and the Temp J lounge is essentially a OWS lounge.

In SIN the J lounge is better than the F lounge.

Be serious - Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club lounges

I do not understand this - why are Business travelers being treated to the First lounge? Why am I being asked to slum it in an old Business lounge when I fly First?

I guess it is because the J lounge is twice the size of the F thus when they knock down bits of it you will still have a lounge sized appropriate to your importance. Equally by [-]all[/-] many reports here the J lounge is superior to the F lounge in SIN.

You are supposed to get access when flying Jetstar but they now shut the SIN lounges in the morning meaning you get nothing if you fly on JQ/3K.

While my heart usually sinks whenever I read about QF enhancing something in this case it's good news.

Interesting division of "classes" with the temporary First Lounge being F, J and WP/OWE and the temporary Business Lounge being Gold/OWS and QP. It's similar to the dom J/QP division with J flyers now qualifying for the better standard lounge.

You are supposed to get access when flying Jetstar but they now shut the SIN lounges in the morning meaning you get nothing if you fly on JQ/3K.

I suspect QF would read that entitlement as you get access when the QF lounges are otherwise open. It's no different to flying OW from MEL after the QF lounges close.

3K513 departs to BKK at 1910, but with morning flights as stated - no QF lounges are open.

While my heart usually sinks whenever I read about QF enhancing something in this case it's good news.

Perhaps QP have added J pax as the temporary F lounge will be bigger during the renovations to take the pressure off the temporary (smaller) J lounge. What will be interesting to see is if the access policy in SIN stays the same after the renos are finished.

F lounge staff in SIN are shocking.

They are lot better in the other lounge.

F lounge staff member could not even give me a boarding pass she told me to ring QF and they would sort it out.

Well, if it's a new First Lounge, let's hope it mirrors that of SYD or MEL (but one can only hope - I doubt we'll have full on waiter service, let alone a spa). If it's created like the HKG one, well, that's a bit of a downer......

Maybe they'll design a dining area, but it'll be like how BA operates their T3 F Lounge - i.e. you'll need to be either flying F or only Qantas Platinums allowed in the dining area Just kidding...

Interestingly I find the F lounge nicer, although it was certainly better when they had that river running through the middle (it's been dry for a couple of years). Plus, the bathrooms are bigger in the F lounge area, and were even better than the J ones until they replaced all the Molton Brown with Jurlique. In any case, it certainly isn't an excellent lounge; especially if QF want to cement SIN as their mid-point of one of their flagship routes (i.e. to/from LHR).

Also, someone help me - how has the access policy changed from normal? I can't see a difference.

It's interesting that they're going to give F pax the bigger lounge and the J pax the smaller lounge. Although more comfortable for F pax / OWE / WP, doesn't logic say it should be the other way around? (The new temp J lounge is going to be more packed than a Ryanair 737). Unless part of the old J lounge is going to be resumed in the process of constructing the new F lounge. On that note, where will the new F lounge be?

F and J pax are going to share the same lounge, to the way I read it. Unless I've got it wrong

I'm sure QF will read it any way they like in which they get away with cost avoidance. Jetstar is not in OW and they profiting from selling points and status so they should provide the return benefits of that status.

QF announced that HKG and SIN would get new F lounges designed by Marc Newsom to mirror/match the SYD/MEL lounge (quite why BNE doesn't get the love is a mystery to me). Obviously not expecting a Spa but am expecting much improved food offerings.

The key difference in the access policy are:

J and F pax using the F lounge. J lounge only being used by OWS Status, QP and JQ Biz Max pax.

I'm hazarding a guess the Newsonised lounge will be contstucted in the largish underutilised space immeditly in front of and to the right of the top of the escalator as you come up from the concourse.

True, there is room there, but then why do the switcheroo of the current J and F lounges.

QF announced that HKG and SIN would get new F lounges designed by Marc Newsom to mirror/match the SYD/MEL lounge (quite why BNE doesn't get the love is a mystery to me).

Probably due to the fact that the QF services out of BNE do not have an F cabin (or at least no seats are sold as F).

Interesting comparison with MEL - QF has more international services into and out of BNE than it does to/from MEL, yet MEL gets an F lounge because there are still F seats sold on the MEL flights.

Other interesting thing is MEL no longer has any (scheduled) QF 747 flights, while BNE has 747s on SIN, LAX and DFW.
