Given the stories about QF elites getting upgrades from EK and being sold on the benefits on Skywards, I'm curious as to what routes these were on and whether they were on QF or EK coded tickets.

Also, on the converse, any story of QF showing the EK elites some love?

Re: EK upgrade love

EK took an interesting approach on the Glassgow flight last week. I was in a pretty empty J cabin at the front on a 777. Just after boarding the CSM came up and gave me the chat about me being a very frequent flyer etc. I was then asked of I'd like to see First class. Of course I would!!! I though here we go, upgrade time. I was taken through, had a seat and was shown all the features. Then, to my surprise I was told it was time to go back.... I felt like a kid that's been shown the candy and had it taken away.

A quiet J cabin was plenty good in any case, so not really grumbling, and they did say that I would have been upgraded had the flight not been so quiet (no F passengers so probably not catered).

Re: EK upgrade love

Just came back from completing a PER-DXB-MAD and back the same way.

I had a EK ticket and am a QF Gold.

PER-DXB: Access to EK or QF lounge in PER
DXB-MAD: EK Business lounge in DXB, greeting from the CSM
MAD-DXB: Access to lounge in MAD (shared by several OW) and OPUP on that leg (my first ever experience in Business!) also greeting from CSM
DXB-PER: same business lounge access in DXB, moved to exit row when asked at boarding gate and greeting from CSM.

Great experience and first time I notice any real benefit for having gold QFF card! (apart from obvious lounge access)

Hi richiya, how was the emergency exit seat. Was there much reduction in width due to screen and table storage? I assume the arm rests were not movable.

Re: EK upgrade love

didn't really notice a difference in width and you are right, not moveable. I did notice that in the 4 middle seats the centre ones could lift it (usually given to people travelling with infants.

IMO,definetly worth getting that seat regardless of loss of width (unless you are really large) just to stretch your legs out!

Also forgot to add, I was given an express pass to go through customs in Dubai and also in Madrid. Bags also got a Business tag and were out early both in MAD and even in Perth that can be hit and miss!

Re: EK upgrade love

I know it's not a direct answer to the question, but there were no hints of upgrades or tours on our recent J ADL-DXB-MXP return. Sniff

Re: EK upgrade love

Unfortunately I have had the opposite experience on EK... No recognition of QF status whatsoever. It was printed on my BP, and that was it.

I did manage to arrange a better seat in the lounge by asking the EK lounge angel nicely. She was lovely and was able to reseat me after the flight had closed thanks to some no shows.

No op-ups, not that QF ever gives me op-ups anyway :(

Thanks for the detailed info of your emirates flight richiya, have a similar situation and would like ask did you get any questions while you check in at MAD for lounge access?
My initial thought was lounge access on EK will only be eligible for EK operated lounges instead of associated lounges, and from what I searched from EK website MAD is a partner lounge.
I will be travelling on EK in Sep, also an EK ticket with QF Gold myself. I am thinking about my lounge access at both Nairobi and Amman.

Re: EK upgrade love

Hi Featheast,
No questions asked was given it directly, printed on both boarding pases. Sorry haven't been to Nairobi or Amman.
best of luck.

Re: EK upgrade love

Hi all had a good experience 7/7 flew per/dxb emirates metal. QF ticketed. Travelling y. Asked for emergency exit and both mrs and I upgraded to j. Both of us are SG and were very surprised and pleased. Csm introduced himself and welcomed us aboard. No mention of skywards. Had a very unpleasant experience on QF 9 connection dxb /Lhr. We have a list of complaints about the QF experience in which we have written to customer care twice in the last 2weeks and surprise surprise still no response from Qantas. Not looking forward to trip back to aus at end of August. QF 10. Wife already wants to jump ship to EK.

My partner recently flew Syd-Dxb 1st on Emirates and said the experience overall was amazing from the attentive service, seat comfort, suite ambiance and the food. Overall he loved it. The same could not be said for the connecting 1st class flight with QF to London. It was in no way comparable and the service was terrible. So maybe the EK/QF partnership is not a match made in heaven after all lol.

Re: EK upgrade love

Totally agree globetrotter Qantas need to step up there game as I think there will be a mass exodice. They say your the reason we fly. Mmm well treat your customers with the service they deserve. I think down the track QF will regret the partnership.

Re: EK upgrade love

Am QFF Gold - flew Emirates for the 1st time from Dallas to Dubai on a discount Y ticket last month (booked via Corp Travel agent).
Was upgraded to J at the gate on the 777-200LR which was a fantastic surprise for a 14.5 hour flight. Food was awesome and plentiful, and the TV screen was the biggest I have seen in J. The amenity kit is very large and contains everything (!) plus more including Bvlgari products.
Staff were very friendly and professional.
Loved it - Thank you Emirates !!!

A mass exodus to Emirates?

Why? Because a couple of people have received op-ups? The remainder have had no recognition. Emirates is just another airline.

What would you do for domestic flights once you lost your status on Qantas?

There is no need to lose status on Qantas even by switching longhaul and trans tasman to Emirates.

How many long haul premium class flights have you done on Emirates? The people above are saying it is a lot more than just opups but also the service levels, onboard product and the rest....

Re: EK upgrade love

Have been QFF member for 17 years, last 9 years or so at Platinum (and a brief 1 year excursion into P1 when several international business trips managed to line up with oneworld carriers) and got lifetime gold about 5 years ago. Frequent domestic upgrades on regional WA routes, very occasional interstate and never international.

Booked PER-DXB-FRA/BHX-DXB-PER discount economy with EK for self & wife before the QF alliance started. Changed FF on booking later to QF to get lounge access (no status credits but will never get enough EK SCs to be worth while anyway). Uneventful outward trip (with greeting from CSM). When checking in at Birmingham on return, we were upgraded to J on BHX-DXB leg. So in 4 months they have managed better than Qantas have in 17 years. Only one trip, I know, but still quite positive.

Re: EK upgrade love

My 18 year old daughter (QFF PS status) got an op-up from discount economy to business on a DXB - LHR flight this morning. I don't think I will hear the end of it, spoilt child

Re: EK upgrade love

As per my post on FT, I am QF Gold and was on a cancelled EK flight last week. Another Gold next to me at the counter got an op-up as part of re-routing, but facing the prospect of more nights on waitlist, I had to take an op-down to Jetstar international for one leg. Dealing with QF/EK on an EK cancelled flight was terrible. Will never fly codeshare or EK again if I can help it.
