EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

Re: EK upgrade love

EK took an interesting approach on the Glassgow flight last week. I was in a pretty empty J cabin at the front on a 777. Just after boarding the CSM came up and gave me the chat about me being a very frequent flyer etc. I was then asked of I'd like to see First class. Of course I would!!! I though here we go, upgrade time. I was taken through, had a seat and was shown all the features. Then, to my surprise I was told it was time to go back.... I felt like a kid that's been shown the candy and had it taken away.

A quiet J cabin was plenty good in any case, so not really grumbling, and they did say that I would have been upgraded had the flight not been so quiet (no F passengers so probably not catered).

Thats poor form IMHO. No harmin getting the seat if nothing else.

Re: EK upgrade love

A mass exodus to Emirates?

Why? Because a couple of people have received op-ups? The remainder have had no recognition. Emirates is just another airline.

What would you do for domestic flights once you lost your status on Qantas?

I think if you re read the post in its context, I think you'll realise that the " mass exodus" bit wasn't because of a couple of op- ups.

I'm in the middle of a bit of international EK- ing right now and whilst yet to get any upgrade love, I am very impressed with the service in every regard. As I posted elsewhere, while on an EK Y leg, I got more pleasant attention than I think I ever had in years travelling QF. Not a game changer yet, but it's getting my attention.

Re: EK upgrade love

I flew wif EK in early march, and even cattle classs surpassed QF, and will be flying with EK in june 14 for a euro trip and will be a QF Gold in jan (based on what ill get for my upcoming flights)
Id love to get EK love for a bit of the trip, mainly the homeward bound to unwind after all the travels lol, can be hopeful eh? :)

Re: EK upgrade love

Received an op-up Y→J on the SIN-MEL segment of EK404 last night. Also got a few personalised greetings in my seat during my trip, though I'm only SG and wasn't really expecting it.

Hey Cam, you were on the same flight as my sister-in-law but she didn't have any such luck (fortunately for you as they were travelling with a baby and trying to get seats together was hard enough)...

To be honest I found the EK Y service was good, but wasn't anything special as a WP.

Yes - EK Y service does tend to be of a good standard for everyone, but there was nothing special for being WP. No CSM welcome, or special treatment. I ate and drunk the Y food and beverage options and, as far as I could tell, received the same service as everyone else.

The only difference was my buddy and I got an exit row with a blocked middle seat (this was organised on the ground).

Regarding op-ups, I have horrible luck on every airline.

I have flown over 200K BIS miles so far this year, and have always flown in the cabin I have booked, or upgraded to using points or upgrade instruments.

Not one op-up, or even anything that looked like an op-up. The best I have had is "preferential" seating.

Re: EK upgrade love

First time flying Emirates, got upgraded to J at the Emirates lounge in SYD (SYD/DXB). Not the same luck on the DXB/GRU leg, but my exit row request was granted at the first class lounge in DXB.

I don't know whether that makes any difference, but my upgrade happened at the SYD Emirates lounge (I went there to check it out, after FLounging at Qantas).

That was the best J flight ever. A million times better than Qantas J, and almost as good as Qantas First. The only thing missing are the PJs.

Re: EK upgrade love

First revenue flight on Emirates (QF Code); got a J -> F OpUp at the gate. F Cabin seemed about half full.

ExpertFlyer was showing a fairly full flight and I had casually enquired at the lounge if there were any op-ups happening that day. Unsure what (if any) part that played.

Re: EK upgrade love

Not an upgrade, but heartfelt thanks to the EK Lounge Angel at LHR for relaxing the admission rules and allowing Mrs Lambchop and two toddlers (technically 3 guests) to accompany me (QF SG) into the lounge for an hour before boarding on Saturday night. Very much appreciated

Re: EK upgrade love

As a WP for 10 years and a LTG QFF without an opup, I finally received my first, but not from QF, it was EK and very very very appreciated. At boarding time Y-J on DXB-PER.

Re: EK upgrade love

I mentioned in the operational upgrade thread already but I was recently opup y > j for dxb-bkk. the EK J product is better in almost every way than QF simple as that.

That is very nice of them. (Officially the 2 child benefit above normal guest access for EK lounges is a WP only benefit.)

Re: EK upgrade love

Got a very pleasant surprise when checking in tonight for EK409 when Mrs B and I were both given an op-up J>F. Have never received one on QF. Great way to start the trip

Re: EK upgrade love

Mrs Lime n self doing DXB/HKG in J what are the loads like on that sector?.

When are you doing it, its seasonal, for instance at present many UAE to Australia flights are full for the next few weeks?

Re: EK upgrade love

I was flying BKK to DXB on and EK ticket booked in J. Upgraded to First in both directions. April 2013. QF WP and LTG

Re: EK upgrade love

Recently flew Emirates metal qantas codeshare Syd-DXB-ZRH. Got comp upgrade from J to F in the first lounge at DXB to ZRH and again from DXB to SYD on return. Nice one Emirates...

Looks like passengers were upgraded to fill all premium cabins as all seats were full. 4 pers were upgraded to F in DXB..

Re: EK upgrade love

J to F op-ups on QF9 DXB - LHR, EK008 LHR - DXB and EK423 DXB - PER a couple of weeks ago. Got to love those school holidays. It did, however, remind me that I prefer QF F to EK F - I suspect that I'm in the minority.

The QF suite is definitely better due to its sheer size but there is something very flashy about those onboard toilets/showers on EK and the mini bar and food presentation/menus just seem a bit nicer on EK.
