On the subject of seat selection ... if the same seats show on the EK website as were selected on the QF website, then all is okay?

I've never had them match. The Emirates one sticks for us.

This is just one of the reasons for avoiding EK. Once they shifted me inflight !! I was not happy.

Say what?

can you elaborate further on this situation and what happened?

Very unusual

On the topic of seat selections from QF or EK - mine made via QF website or app have always stuck on EK. I've neve rhad need to go to the EK website. Curious that some seem to have issues and some don't (but I know this is OT and maybe should be split into a separate thread?)

Op-upped last night from Y to J on BKK-HKG, very attentive service on board - greeted by the J Lead FA and the Purser which was quite amusing given there was a very famous Hong Kong Actress with her family on board which the FAs made no effort to give special treatment (even though they knew who she was from various tabloid exploits).

Found the lounge and on board hard and soft product on the 380 vastly superior to QF in almost every way.

Not bad considering my QF SG expired on 31/12!

I don't think I could name any actress from HK so it's quite possible the EK hosties didn't know who she was unless they happen to read the same tabloids as you but chose to ignore her.

Doing MEL>DXB>LHR return on 16/1 - 19/1 in Y as a QF WP. EK409 + EK003 then EK006 + EK406. Spewing the first sector if a 777 instead the A380. Might kill my chances of any upgrade love. Will let you know how I go.

the FAs did know her and were gossiping about her tabloid scandals in Galley FM :)

IME you're much more likely to get upgrade love on a 777 than an A380 because of the higher capacity on the A380.

On my most recent trips on EK Dec last year, across to NZ there were J and F slots empty.
Was in F to NZ and J back, SYD to CHC, I wasnt upgraded on the return eithef.
QF SG.

Did you go down and check out Y?

EK tend to only upgrade when they oversell Y, and will oversell to fill every seat on the flight if there are people wanting to fly and pay to fly that given day in Y.

They will upgrade Y to J until J is full, then upgrade J to F to get more J seats for Y to J upgrades to fit everyone in.

Had an op up yesterday.

BNE-AKL, Y-J upgrade on EK434

Booked flight only 6 days prior, and at that time all seats had already been allocated other than blocked out seats - eventually was allocated 70A - for it to be taken off me and no seat allocated at some point 24 hours prior to departure.

Check in agent asked me what seat number I had selected originally - which I informed her that I hadn't, that I had been allocated 70A by default, and if I was to choose a seat - I would have chosen a K seat - and given I had no seat allocated, it would appear that they had oversold and were going to op me up and might as well get it over with if that was the case - and after a few keyboard strokes - was passed boarding pass for 6G.

It would appear that they had oversold the flight in Y by 30-50 people, and not a seat empty in J, so no doubt were some J to F upgrades also to free up more J seats for Y upgrades.

(Note: normally EK will re-allocate you your original seat at check in and print a boarding pass for that seat to get you through customs etc - and then as you walk away, take your original seat back off you and put back into it the person who they have/will give that seat to and set you in your upgraded seat location in the system - only for you to know and have a boarding pass for an upgrade upon boarding the flight at the gate when that magical beep occurs.)

Another Op-Up yesterday. Y->J EK-435, AKL-BNE

Saw I lost my seat prior to leaving the lounge, so thought I would be a bit cheeky, but a little bit organized and save gate staff the issues - and went to the lounge angels prior to leaving the lounge suggesting they re-issue my ticket with my new allocated seat - as I think I have been upgraded.

Lounge Angel confirmed upgrade - and printed new pass for 18A

Got to gate and boarded - but still got upgrade beep - even with new ticket - and got told to go to service desk (grrr - thought new pass from Lounge would save all of this) - went to service desk, they ripped up my boarding pass without looking, and got my new pass they had printed for me and gave to me - thought it was identical to the one they just ripped up.

It seemed as if only a few had been upgraded, if not just myself only. J was still a light load, but Y was packed.

Got asked upon ordering dinner for a second option of 3 from menu, and was served second option. Was informed they had loaded meals to the exact number of PAX loaded in J, so was a wait and see what option of two I would get after all others were served.

The upgrade love seems to have all dried up now.

There are recent posts on FT saying that upgrade priority has been reinstated for platinums.
Not entirely clear if that includes QFFs, but here's hoping.

Nothing for us around 6 weeks ago. Two WP.
