Now this interests me - I shop at woolworths so double dipping with my Amex card and this will be a neat tie up :)

Found this announcement on the ASX web site...take that Velocity "Shop and earn store"
QAN Company Announcements

No suprise - but will be interesting to see how this works, given that both of them have been playing a lock-in game with their loyalty products lately.

Velocity could always go with Coles, which would be better than what's left of the FlyBuys program.

Flybuys:oops::oops:
In all seriousness, seems like a good idea- interested to see the full details though.

Very interesting - could be a great tie up.

Coles are still on a massive downhill slide, they probably won't get around to joining Velocity anytime soon, plus I'm not sure Velocity would want them!

Yep looks like I will have to do all my shopping at Woolworths now.

Having said that, I swear the original article in The Australian said something about Coles also. When I re-read it, there is no mention so it must be a mistake on my part.

Time for a drink and a lie down....

Interesting to see how the two companies push the CC side of things.

In one corner will be Woolworths with its HSBC card - pushing earning in both programs

In the other corner will be Qantas pushing a direct credit card to get two bites at the FF point cherry

This email just arrived from QFF so still no detail:

Hello William

Qantas Frequent Flyer and Woolworths have today announced an alliance that will take your membership to a new level.

From mid-2009, you'll be able to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points when shopping for groceries, fuel, packaged liquor, general merchandise or consumer electronics at a participating Woolworths group business. Details of how this will operate are being finalised over the coming months and will be communicated soon.

With this new alliance you'll be able to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points from the leading Australian providers of airline, credit card and retailing services.

Read the press release announcing the alliance with Woolworths.

We look forward to providing more details of this exciting alliance in 2009.

Great more points being thrown around. All we need. More people competing for classic awards. One positive for me - strengthen my resolve to stay away from QFF as the more widespread the points earning opportunities becomes the more difficult it will be to get reasonably priced awards.

I can't see this as being a big points earner for most people, but then is going to depend a bit on earn rate. Even at a point per dollar, for most people it is not going to earn any where near what a credit card offers in terms of points gained per month.

It will be a good supplement to other ways of earning though.

The nearly defunct EZY rewards used to give QFF points @ $1:1point. If you had one of the CC's, Qualifying Spend (Safeway, Woolworths, D1ck Smith etc) would earn at $1:1½ points.

I can't see that these days, but maybe $1:½ point (or $1:¼ point), probably more with the everydaymoney mastercard.
