Flew SYD to CNS Monday evening and got back this evening. Avoided fallout from Ash. Anyway...aircraft from Sydney seemed very new B737-800. I noted registration but lost it somewhere. Each seat had personal screen to choose audio- visual program or flight path. Seating in rows 13 and 14 was spacious in leg room. Return flight was also B737-800 but older generation, if I may call it that. Overall, great service from QF.
 
We didn't have personal AVOD all the way to NZ (but did on the ANZ flight back...)
Then again that's the only time I get to watch movies on my iPad

I dunno if you wanted the rego or not but QF932 on Monday was operated by VH-VZM supposedly. Indeed will be good once they get them all in. I appreciate there's a lot of them and so you'll still see 737 classics operating some more back corner routes. I would of hoped they could of moved all the JetConnect 734's on too since they're older. At least the J is a proper cabin and not terrible, but I'd imagine Y would suck a lot.

21st May 2011.  Aircraft entered service operating QF608 Melbourne - Brisbane. The aircraft is configured 12J/156Y and is the second QANTAS Boeing 737-800 to be delivered with new Recaro Business Class seats and in flight entertainment throughout.14th May 2011. Aircraft began delivery flight QF6024 routing Boeing Field - Honolulu - Nadi - Melbourne arriving in Melbourne on 16th May 2011. The aircraft overnighted in Honolulu.

I remember about 12-13 years ago when I'd get excited being on a 734, which was (to me anyway) the "fancy new plane", compared to the usual 733... now I avoid booking flights on them wherever possible haha

Huh, how could an aircraft be older than QF or Australian/TAA? For the record the 733s were younger when they left the fleet than the current 734s! TAF was the first delivered in 86, and left in 03! By comparison VH-TJE, the first of the 734s was delivered in 1990 and is still working hard!

OGB is the grand dame of the QF fleet, B standing for Bicentennial given she was delivered in 1988!

Have a close look at the Aust Air 737 freighters and you wont have to much problem remembering the old 733s, XMB, XMO, XMR and XML are all ex mainline 733s converted for freight.

Haha. Very funny. All I remember from the 733's (And currently, the 734's) are that they are hangar queens, always delayed, always going tech. :(

Same could be said for the 732s, 762s, A300s etc, once an aircraft hits 15-20 years it does become more unreliable, some airlines like to spend too much time in the bathtub curve (See-Caruso, H. Too much time in the bathtub (curve) – an aging aircraft paradigm that doesn’t hold water. Joint Council on Aging Aircraft. Aging Aircraft Conference Technical Paper, 2005.)

Syd-Mel 17th June would appear to be the last flight possibly, has not been seen in Brisbane since the 16th. When she does leave OJA (7/89) takes over beating OGE by a month.
 
OGB last operated domestically as QF464 a week ago (17JUN11).
