Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Thanks for the link (I was trying on my phone). From the T&Cs:

Offer only available to new American Express Card Members who apply via this page by 30 September 2015, are approved and spend $1000 on their new card in the first 3 months of Card Membership. Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product offered by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 12 month period are ineligible for this offer.

Arrggh! I guess the fact that I hold a CBA Amex will preclude me?

NO, this refers to directly issued cards (i.e. Amex card AND issued by Amex) only, banks cards are "issued" by the banks themselves (despite still being an Amex card)!

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

I cancelled my Amex issued card and applied this two weeks later and got the bonus!

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

I would imagine most people would have held some kind of Amex issued card within the last 12 months and hence the uptake of this might be quite low, no? I would apply in a heartbeat but already have the platinum edge, so would not get the bonus plus get charged the fee. Maybe they should modify to "not cancelled a card within the last 12 months " rather than"held any card in the last 12 months "

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

I haven't held an AMEX issued card in many years.

That would have to be the softest card application I've ever done - not asking about assets, just the most basic income and expenditure (and contact details for my accountant :) ).

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Has anyone found in the T&Cs how and when the annual fee is applied? I assume given the large points allocation and free flight offer it's up front, but can anyone confirm?

Annual fee applied on the first bill cycle

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Sucks if you get charged the annual fee, and then they won't give the bonus because you already had a card. What to do then ?

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

This part I like.
0.5 points.
Government bodies including the Australian Taxation Office, Australia Post, federal/state and local government bodies

I have never had a direct card through American Express so I might have a crack at it,

You will see on the statement as soon as you spend $1000, bonus points allocated (won't get transferred to your velocity account until end of bill cycle)... I'm not sure if you can cancel the card without paying the annual fee. IMO, the free flight justifies the annual fee.

I live in NTL - I don't think you can use the return flight from here. Only from the capital cities ?
