Velocity Amex -110,000 POINTS, return free flight,4 lounge passes, travel insurance
I started this thread when the referral bonus was only 80,000 points
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ity-amex-80-000-points-68761.html#post1263006 but the offer has since increased to 110,000 points. I asked the Mods if they could update my original old thread and title to reflect the increase in the offer but they said I should start a new thread instead, so here it is. There was also a number of questions about the card I have answered throughout the old thread, so this opening post is an update of the offer and a summary of the answers I have given. I hope this post serves as a comprehensive summary of this card and incredible offer whether you use my link or not.
Rather than just posting a link I've taken some time to actually explain some of the features of the best credit card offer I have
ever seen in Australia. Please support a long-time very active member of this forum rather than someone who signs up just to post a referral link!
HOW TO APPLY
Apply by 30 September 2015 here and receive:
FEATURES
1.
110,000 VELOCITY POINTS after spending $1000 (
must use
referral link otherwise you only receive 100,000 points). These
110,000 points are more than enough for a completely free one-way Business Class ticket from Australia to Los Angeles!! That’s about $3,000 of value right there. Or else you would almost have enough points for a return economy ticket to Europe plus a small fees and taxes co-pay. Even redeeming for domestic economy flights you should be able to get $1,300 value depending on how you use them – its
7 RETURN flights from Melbourne to Sydney!
2.
A completely free domestic return flight with Virgin Australia to selected cities,
now and every year after your first Card spend – the list of available routes for using the free flight is here -
AMXACQ1994_FlightMap_v4
You can depart from any participating airport and again, several hundred dollars value. The flights can be booked easily through Amex travel and availability is good. Here's a list of the free flight destinations from the majors (I've
bolded what I consider to be the best value from that major origin):
MELBOURNE TO: Adelaide, Mildura, Hobart, Launceston, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast,
Brisbane, Maroochydore
SYDNEY TO: Adelaide, Albury, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Canberra, Port Macquarie, Ballina Byron, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hamilton Island, Townsville,
Cairns
CANBERRA TO: Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney,
Brisbane, Gold Coast
BRISBANE TO: Adelaide,
Hobart, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hamilton Island, Townsville, Proserpine,
Cairns
GOLD COAST TO: Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney,
Canberra, Townsville
ADELAIDE TO: Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra,
Brisbane, Gold Coast
PERTH TO: Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome, Newman, Adelaide,
Sydney
HOBART TO: Melbourne, Sydney,
Brisbane
While you can book a return flight from each of the majors above to each of the destinations listed below it, you cannot necessarily book it in the opposite direction (ie destination to origin return). Outside a sale period it would be very easy to recoup your $349 annual fee from this return flight on top of all the other benefits.
3.
Two free Single Entry passes to any Virgin Australia domestic lounge each year. May not be useful for SG and WP members, but $130 value to others.
4.
Two free Single Entry passes to Amex’s Centurion lounge at Sydney International Airport(flying
any carrier).
5.
Domestic and International Travel Insurance when you pay for eligible travel on your Card.
6.
Travel Inconvenience Insurance will cover you for flight delays, missed connections or delayed luggage.
7.
Discounted business class travel when you fly with a friend to selected Virgin Australia international long haul destinations, including flights to Europe and the US that codeshare with Etihad or Delta.
8. Earn rates:
3 Velocity Points per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- Virgin Australia
- Tens of thousands of restaurants in Australia
2 Points per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- Airlines, accommodation, major cruise and tour operators paid directly or through travel agencies
- Spend in foreign currency when overseas and online
1 Point per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- All other providers, excluding those below
- Insurances offered by American Express
0.5 Point per dollar spent on eligible Card purchases at:
- Utilities which are gas, water and electricity providers
- Insurance offered by companies other than American Express
- Telecommunication providers which includes goods and services purchased from phone, mobile and internet service providers
- Government bodies including the Australian Taxation Office, Australia Post, federal/state and local government bodies
Spending at restaurants, airlines and accommodation, major cruise and tour operators categories will only be eligible for increased Velocity Points if the merchant is categorised as eligible according to its merchant code. Each merchant is typically assigned a code and categorised based on what they primarily sell. For example, spend on dining within a retail department store, hotel, pub and liquor outlet may not be eligible for the additional Points for restaurants. Velocity Points are awarded on the Australian-dollar billed amount of the spend in foreign currency. Except for spend at merchants where you earn 3, 2 or 0.5 Points per $1 spent, you earn 1 Point for every $1 spent including if the purchase is made with someone other than the provider of the goods or service, for example through a third party such as a travel aggregator. The earn rate of 3 Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia only applies to purchases made in Australia.
EXISTING CARD HOLDERS/RECENT CARD HOLDERS
If you are a supplementary card holder for an existing customer you are not considered an existing customer by Amex and can still receive the bonus points.
Although the terms and conditions of the bonus offer state that you must not have held an Amex-issued card for the previous 12 months (Bank-issued Amex is fine), there have been multiple reports on this forum of members who have received the bonus points despite not meeting this criteria, (ie either holding an existing Amex (as primary card holder), or cancelling an Amex within the past 12 months),
especially those holding the Platinum Edge. A Velocity insider on another forum also said Amex are being 'extremely flexible' with the rules of this promotion. YMMV.
If applying I would recommend disclosing your existing card when prompted during the application (as Amex can very easily check anyway). Other members have still received the bonus points by disclosing. YMMV.
SUMMARY AND VALUE
This is quite simply the best Australian credit card offer I have ever seen (and I've had lots of credit cards!) and by far the highest sign on bonus for any Velocity card in history especially as you only need to spend $1000 to get those bonus points (versus
much higher minimum spend requirements for much less points with other cards) plus a lot of other features. There is a $349 annual fee but with all the benefits you should easily be able to obtain over $1,700 of value from this card in the first year alone.
Offer ends 30 September 2015 applying at this link. I love this card and hope you will too – I appreciate your support! I also receive a referral bonus of 20,000 points. Any questions please ask – very happy to help.
