Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

I already have an Amex issued Amex card so am not eligible for this offer. Maybe I can convince +1 to apply for this card....if she is already a supplementary Amex card holder, would she still be eligible for the bonus? I assume you are eligible for the free flight as soon as you pay the annual fee?

I live in NTL - I don't think you can use the return flight from here. Only from the capital cities ?

You can use your free flight to fly from NTL to either MEL or BNE.

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Sucks if you get charged the annual fee, and then they won't give the bonus because you already had a card. What to do then ?

You're out of luck - its the risk you take in order to try and get the bonus points!

I'm tempted to try. So is the general consensus to tick the box that you are an existing card member, or to leave it blank ?

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

I asked Amex directly, and they said it is for new Card Members only. So obviously not everything is wired up correctly. I wonder how they determine if someone is a new customer ? Only by that checkbox ?

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Well, we'll just have to be happy with the 'free' flight and the lounge access if we don't get the big points injection. I've taken the risk even though I admitted on the app to having an AMEX already. I did a cost benefit on paying for a flight directly from CBR, they are always more expensive, and this works out cheaper.

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

I'm already a Plat, so have lounge access. $349 for a return flight to Melbourne is probably what it costs, Brisbane is usually less than that. I won't really have the opportunity to use the flights. Can they be sold ? What about the lounge passes ? I'll give it a go anyway.

I've taken the punt too. I've sold the flight for $150 (most like MEL-MCY return), so I'm betting with $200. On the evidence already provided here, it could go either way, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

No dice for me. Applied and got a call from amex. I forgot I actually had 2 cards with them - an old basic velocity card and plat edge. You can't have more than two cards so they asked if I want to update one but the offer of bonus points won't apply. Maybe I wait it out for a month or so and then try applying again.

So you applied and was accepted and they called you, or, you applied and they called you and you had the option to back out of the application?

I applied this morning. Did not get automatically approved and they texted me within 2 hours to call them. I called and we had the conversation I mentioned already and I asked if I upgrade the existing velocity card that I don't use will I still get the bonus and he said no.i then said I would like to withdraw the application and subsequently cancelled that old credit card so I am now back to one card - plat edge.

Interesting. I have the Plat. Edge which I declared on the application. Got the text message saying approved. I'm not usually a betting person, but the offer was too good to pass up.

Either way, I won't be hanging on to this card as most of my spend is at the supermarket and Platinum Edge is better in this regard.

I think I must have raised their red flags because I already had two cards with them and completely forgot about one. Will apply using wife's account and she had one card only. But I'll give it some time until people start reporting the bonus points are coming through.
