Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Hi, apologies as i am new to this whole amex/points scenarion but i have a quick question.
I plan to apply and then refer my wife so i can get the extra 20k points.
At what stage would i be able to do the refferal for her to get myself the extra 20k points?
would it be
a) once the card is approved
b) once i have the card
c) once i get my initial 110k points?

Thanks in advance all

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

Hey Gianni, you just need to register for online services with your card. So you will be able to refer her strait away once you receive your card and have activated it and therefore registered for online services (which you can do at the same time)

Yep, as soon as you get your card and have online services you'll be good to go. No need to wait for the bonus points to post!

Good luck

Re: Best offer yet! AMEX Velocity Platinum with 110,000 bonus!

WOW! thanks for the quick reply everyone.
1 step closer to 110k. Saving for Europe trip in 2017 for 10 Year Wedding Anniversary so hopefully we can scrounge around to get enough points for at least economy and maybe with some luck prem/business. Time will tell but at least this is a start.
Thanks again for all the help

AMEX Velocity - 110,000 bonus points (confirmed for an existing card holder)

Hi all,

Sorry for yet another thread! I've had a thread in this forum for a little while now back when it was originally 80,000 points and as seen from others, mods have advised to re-post to reflect the updated bonus.

I recently applied for this card through a referral (on this forum) as a current Amex platinum edge card holder; I declared that I was a holder and entered my platinum edge card number during the application process. I can confirm that the bonus points posted, so this definitely worked for me as a pre-existing amex customer! I've also posted my results regarding this in the Amex forum :)

Some highlights of this card:
- 110,000 velocity points upon spending $1000 within the first 3 months

- A free return domestic flight with Virgin each year - list of routes here: AMXACQ1994_FlightMap_v4
This flight can be booked in either your own name or in somebody else's name (I've used my free flight for family members) - availability is generally very good!

- 2 free passes to a domestic Virgin lounge per year
- 3 points per $ at a range of restaurants (including Dominos as I've found out!) and with Virgin Australia
- 2 points per $ for airlines, accommodation, cruise and tour operators
- 0.99% pa balance transfer for 6 months
- Supplementary cards for no additional cost
- Discounted international companion business class fares on Virgin / Etihad / Delta
- Usual travel insurance / purchase protection etc

The annual fee is $349, which I feel for the 110,000 points and the free flight each year, is more than worth it.

Offer is valid for applications up until 30th September, 2015.

Thank you for any support!

Simon

There have been multiple reports on this forum of members who have received the bonus points despite not meeting this criteria, (ie either holding an existing Amex (as primary card holder), or cancelling an Amex within the past 12 months), especially those holding the Platinum Edge. A Velocity insider on another forum also said Amex are being 'extremely flexible' with the rules of this promotion. YMMV.
If applying I would recommend disclosing your existing card when prompted during the application (as Amex can very easily check anyway). Other members have still received the bonus points by disclosing. YMMV.

FYI - from the previous thread, I applied on Wed 1st July, no text message of approval but card arrived in the mail today!

Are people calling to confirm they will get the 110k points even being existing card holders or are they just winging it, spending the minimum and seeing what happens?

No. Don't want to alert them. I'm just winging it.

2. A completely free domestic return flight with Virgin Australia to selected cities, now and every year after your first Card spend – the list of available routes for using the free flight is here -AMXACQ1994_FlightMap_v4
You can depart from any participating airport and again, several hundred dollars value. The flights can be booked easily through Amex travel and availability is good. Here's a list of the free flight destinations from the majors (I've bolded what I consider to be the best value from that major origin):
MELBOURNE TO: Adelaide, Mildura, Hobart, Launceston, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore
SYDNEY TO: Adelaide, Albury, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Canberra, Port Macquarie, Ballina Byron, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hamilton Island, Townsville, Cairns
CANBERRA TO: Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast
BRISBANE TO: Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Rockhampton, Mackay, Hamilton Island, Townsville, Proserpine, Cairns
GOLD COAST TO: Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Townsville
ADELAIDE TO: Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Gold Coast
PERTH TO: Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome, Newman, Adelaide, Sydney
HOBART TO: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane
While you can book a return flight from each of the majors above to each of the destinations listed below it, you cannot necessarily book it in the opposite direction (ie destination to origin return). Outside a sale period it would be very easy to recoup your $349 annual fee from this return flight on top of all the other benefits.

A question on the free flight - does it have to be for you or can you use it for your partner?

You can use it for anyone you like.

What about people from Darwin? Are they not 'people', Amex?

wow. I'd better get hubby to apply. He has Amex platinum edge so I assumed he wouldn't get the 110, 000 points. Did you speak to Amex prior or just take the risk?

What about people from Darwin? Are they not 'people', Amex?

Most of the free flights offered are fairly short in length, of which there aren't many ex-DRW. I am a bit surprised that DRW-BNE and DRW-ASP was not on the list!

Re: Velocity Amex -110,000 POINTS, return free flight,4 lounge passes, travel insuran

Been advised that it is now approved by a SMS yesterday. Any idea when one can start using the free return flight? Thinking to book a trip for next weekend.....
