I've seen that much sediment and more on the side of a bottle of well aged red, but from a '13 it's pretty serious going! I guess that probably means it was laid down thoroughly undisturbed between vintage and dispatch to end up so well encrusted. Quite possibly the one on the right was the...

I have a similar thing called a Baccarat Simpull. It works well on natural cork and on Diam, but I discovered that the teflon coating on the screw can be stripped by a synthetic cork. Fortunately it came with a spare screw. I haven't seen one of those plastic corks for years now anyway. The...

It has been discussed before. Allegiance The Fighter was the consensus I believe. As I recall nobody could point to where the purported Tony Keys score had actually been published.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals You mean the Norfolk Rise? It does seem to have disappeared since this morning. It did have a "going, going..." sign on it. Perhaps a broker might be able to rustle some up...

I adhere to them as strictly as I can, because the dates he gives are essentially his guess at best-before dates. That's an important distinction. Waiting until those dates will not in general give the best results, though if you like wine very well aged they give an idea of approximately how...

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts. Based on AC's comments I'm viewing mine with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. The pre-Christmas rush of offers being what it is, if I take his advice to wait a while for it to come together, I could just...

Ordinarily I'd favour going straight to the producer. We're in the middle of a 5-hour flash sale with free shipping though. So right now VM has the edge. :)

I absolutely don't want to start a conversation about their relative merits as a charity, but in case anyone was going to donate money to Oxfam anyway, I notice that they are in this deal too. If you donate, you can name your amount (so, $60, obviously) and it's tax deductible on top of that...

Thanks for your research AC. It was indeed one of their sloppiest listings ever in terms of facts (and the $50 RRP remains even though the Parous website knows nothing about this vintage).

Nobody has mentioned a couple of somewhat interesting new arrivals. "Rapunzel", presumably Parous Barossa Shiraz, and the drop for "adulting", surely Bleasdale Generations Shiraz. Thanks to Wozza's review of the 2012, I'm managing to hold firm in my resolve to take a break from wine...

My impression from your previous posts is that typical Barossa shiraz isn't your thing. The Teusner is exactly that, a fine example of it, but you might be bored by it. If you think all the others are worth $19 each then you could view it as a very agreeable $13 quaffer. ;)

Cracka have extended their $50 off deal (coupon code H6B50). Still hard to get excited about very much, but - although I am not generally a merlot lover - the 2015 Cullen Mangan Merlot blend is a nice drop and they have it in a 6-pack, the price becomes pretty reasonable after the code. Under...

I my opinion it's an early drinker. It might become a little softer, a little more complex, but not really less 'thin'. If you don't like it now for that reason, don't put it down and resent it taking up space, because unless your tastes change you're not going to be bowled over. (Of course...

I agree that it could be considered a bit thin, especially if Pertaringa Over The Top is what floats your boat. (And I don't mean that in any perjorative way. They are just very different wines.) I think the Claymore is a good wine for the money if you like the style. I personally wasn't...

I have the opposite of this 'Oenophobia' and need help!

I understand what you're saying AC. My point is just that many people may not factor that in, or may think they are doing so, but later find themselves to be in error. This equation can only give you an instantaneous result, even though it looks superficially as though whatever it spits out is...

I have the opposite of this 'Oenophobia' and need help!

Ah but if you tip it down the sink (or sell through Langton's or whatever), do you then say, "Oh well, no wine for me tonight." Or do you go and get another? Unless your 'B' in the equation already accounts for this, your (C/Y) is going to come out wrong. I suspect that most people buy a lot...

I have the opposite of this 'Oenophobia' and need help!

Unfortunately this equation may be too simplistic if some of the wines will expire before you do. That may be another reason to sell down some stock. And to refrain from auction offerings of wines that are already near or past peak.

Or go on personal preference. I personally favoured the Cab but I know that all things being equal I'll always rate a Cab blend over a Grenache blend. And they do seem to be of about equal quality to me. (Thanks vedder50 for the recommendation on the Cab, otherwise I wouldn't have dipped...
