I checked with VM - they mistakenly put the Shiraz Mataro scores/medals against this wine.

It is, in fact, Parous' Barossa offering and not their McLaren Vale Shiraz Mataro. I've noticed that their webpage has been updated

Coonawarra cabernet 2014.

The Hungerford Hill is part of the Underground Project collection of wines, which are sold only online. As an aside, I think the labels are fantastic. !I think they are ****e myself)The 2015 Chardonnay is from Tumbarumba. It’s very cool climate, tight in style but not too tight. I think it will fill out a little over the next few months. 93 points and on the pricey side at $35.
The Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 is a well-made classic Coonawarra cabernet. It rates 93 points but $45 is steep. (Does 93 excite anyone these days?)
The Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014 is a beauty, having a seductive nose and the chocolate character for which the Barossa is well known. 94 points and plenty of competition at $40.

Had to exercise extreme constraint on this one as it is obviously a bobby dazzler, mind you I snapped up a case of 12 of the 2014 Churchview St John's Zinfandel* from Margaret River as the previous vintage was quite superb so had shot my bolt so to speak! (still a bit nervous about the 16.5% alcohol mind....)

Had to exercise extreme constraint on this one as it is obviously a bobby dazzler, mind you I snapped up a case of 12 of the 2014 Churchview St John's Zinfandel* from Margaret River as the previous vintage was quite superb so had shot my bolt so to speak! (still a bit nervous about the 16.5% alcohol mind....)

I bashed the temp back up the FO's delivery tunnel, glad as now have funds for this stellar wine...drinkers waxed lyrical over Pannell at last years Bushing King, for me tho this was the pour that left me humming wild thing...

Always a relief to find that other imbibers have had similar experiences regarding the quality (or otherwise) of the online wine-traders offerings, I got a dozen of the Cab Sav Estate Range from Churchview a while back and that was a lovely drop at under a tenner a bottle from the 'Fo but the St John's is definitely special in my humble opinion...

I too liked the churchview zinfandel a while ago....and now for something completely different, well...it was. Glad you got another case . It is very interesting that sometimes with really high alcoholic wines that the high percentage does not feature so prominently as a distraction. it's all down to superior winemaking I guess but so long as it's good, it's good.

The remaining firm fit fierce five fo faves are resting in the trenches, dark and cool, waiting for the next incursion and this possibly could induce some mystical transformation from a strong Thor to a Zena.

I visited the Churchview Cellar door recently on a trip to the Margaret River. Their St Johns Cab Malbec Merlot Petit Verdot is very good indeed. I’ve tasted the ’13 and ’14 and both are good value for money even at the Cellar door price of $35. Their St Johns range is aimed at producing unusual styles/blends hence the Zin that they do. They also do a straight Petit Verdot and a GSM neither of which I thought were all that great. I have a bottle of their 2011 Bartondale straight Cab from a mix pack on VM I think it only cost about $20. I’m planning on saving it for some time. I think their top end stuff will benefit from a bit of longer termj cellaring which they alluded to although I agree with you Beefarmer that their Bartondale range is a bit overpriced for the quality….probably why they end up flogging it on VM at one third of the cost.

Sad to hear that BF regarding the Bartondale, it always makes me wonder what do people who spend the full RRP think of wines in that price range when you find it only just acceptable at $18, vaguely cheated comes to mind! Hopefully time will wave its magic wand over the five that lie slumbering under your floorboards....

I'm surprised that Churchview are a bit patchy in terms of their quality Warlock, I must say my palate seems to be veering towards the West so it's always good to get the lowdown on wineries etc. Funny that a wine (the Zin) that comprises a planting of just one hectare and has had huge amounts of care and attention to detail thrown at it (for those interested the Churchview site describes it here http://www.churchview.com.au/index....layout=productdetails&productId=75&Itemid=214 in depth if you click on the Tasting Notes) AND has garnered many positive responses also finds its way onto VM for a third of its RRP, I would have thought that the winery would have had zero trouble shifting the small volume produced for full RRP! But that is the bizarre nature of the wine business as described by observers like Philip White....

Ordinarily I'd favour going straight to the producer. We're in the middle of a 5-hour flash sale with free shipping though. So right now VM has the edge.

Anyone tried the Maverick Breechens? We've enjoyed the Shiraz and cab... but I expect we'll be seeing a lot of their stock if the winery is being sold!

A trip to Margaret River about 5 years ago was the catalyst for my love of wine! Was such a fantastic trip. Was made even better by the car rental company not having what we ordered, and giving us a brand new Mercedes instead

Just had a quick look at their site JK and was quite tempted to click the subscribe to "Club Parous" but couldn't see whether or not there is any monetary exchange although they do say "Club Parous is an exclusive wine club with no commitment to order." if it's a free-sign up then free shipping and $120 for six does sound like quite a bargain, does anyone here subscribe? edit: I guess the expression "join for free today" probably gets the message over

Do you mean price/quantity or quality sigma? I bought the Ulithorne Familia Shiraz 2015 this year and really struggled to like it, in fact I sent it back to be honest, for a purported $40 RRP wine it was plain boring, others on the forum agreed, a few said they thought it was fine but it wasn't a good intro to the winery for me!

I get your point, I suppose there are quite a few vintners who are really doing it on a "love" basis as there can't possibly be a profit in flogging off your bespoke product for a 1/3 of the 'market price'. The 16.5% bothers me too but having experienced this particular wine before it wears it very well indeed, I would rather shave of a couple of percentage points to bring it down to say 14% but it is what it is as they say!

Recently tried the Maverick Twins '15 Shiraz. Dense, full-bodied and slightly chalky upon opening. Fruit, oak and tannins still in their neat parts. Almost no alcohol heat despite being 15.2% (unlike the Glenlofty '13 SV that needed 3 days before its 15% could be swallowed). Became markedly smoother and lighter in taste/texture after 9 hours airing. Integrated and settled down a little, but did not really develop. Might have gotten even better the next day, but the bottle didn't survive the throat. Well-balanced though not very complex, and for that price more than a very good drink.
