Yes glad I only bought 6, wouldn't want 12 of them. Will happily enough serve this one as a starter whilst the big guns are in the decanter and opening up.

2012 Hewitson Basham's Beach Tempranillo.

We had a little fun with this, mostly by accident actually. A bit of fluffing about with what glass to drink this out of and the conclusion was that the riedel shiraz and riedel cabernet glasses didnt do the wine as much justice as the riedel red 'O to Go', which is slightly more closed rimmed. Annoyingly I think Halliday's review is reasonably accurate, however I think drink this one young/fresh. Happy to pay $17 for this one in search of a decent Aussie tempranillo. My two pennies are below.

Drank straight from bottle after opening. Dark red cherries with undertones of white pepper. Savoury, a little dry, with finish cascading down and a little short. Not a typical varietal expression or a standalone wine, drink with food and not one to take too seriously. Enjoyable nevertheless but not worth it's RRP. Drink fresh over the next couple years.

Señor Vino, I'm in agreement with you. I quite like it, but it does tend to collapse the second day. Open with a friend when you're both thirsty.
 
Any ideas on the NSW pinot?

Nobody has mentioned a couple of somewhat interesting new arrivals. "Rapunzel", presumably Parous Barossa Shiraz, and the drop for "adulting", surely Bleasdale Generations Shiraz.

Thanks to Wozza's review of the 2012, I'm managing to hold firm in my resolve to take a break from wine purchases despite the initial temptation of the Parous fuelled by their excellent 2010 McLaren Vale Shiraz. (Though my searchings did take me to the Parous website where I note that that wine's current incarnation is as a Shiraz Mataro, which "may be the best wine I have ever made" - even with the qualification, an enticing claim coming from Alex Head. Now that's something I'd like to see come onto VM at a knockdown price, but I suspect plenty will grab it at the $40 asked.)

(Edit: I have gotten mixed up between Matt Head and Alex Head. Matt Head does the Parous wines. Still would expect great things if it's truly better than that 2010 McV.)

The retail price threw me for the Parous.

More likely Heirloom Shiraz ..."let down your heir...loom" :D

Heirloom is a Red 5 Star Halliday winery, which VM would normally mention - Parous isn't.

Also if you scroll down half-way, they have a Parous profile. Could be a mistake, but looks like Parous. Might be a Made for VM wine though.

Edit: Copy on the VM website also mentions that the past two vintages scored 95, which matches Parous (Barossa 2010 and Barossa 2012 both scored 95). The Heirloom scored 95 in 2014, 96 in 2013 and 92 in 2012 (for the Adelaide Zone shiraz)

Hmm...maybe it is the Parous McLaren Vale Shiraz Mataro? That got JH93, and also won a Trophy in the 2015 McLaren Vale Wine Show (best McLaren Vale Shiraz predominant blend). In the Wine Companion, Halliday lists it, mistakenly, as being from Barossa, even though the name of the wine is "Parous McLaren Vale Shiraz Mataro" - maybe that's the source of VM's confusion?
