Basham's Beach Tempranillo
A real contrast to my standard - West Cape Howe 2013 Tempy ('14 is ordinary).
Tawny to deep tawny, sweet ripe concentrated fruits dominated by blueberry and plums. Light to medium bodies wine with spicy and savoury finish. The alcohol is certainly there but not dominant. The finish is smoot and dominated by oak.

Figured I needed to start to describe the wine as I have tended down the path of "great, so so and wish I didn't spend the money"

They delivered the Basham temp to me last week. It's a big cuddly red, tannins very soft to non-existent, and a touch of salinity at the end. I like it, though it may not be for everyone.

Liked it here too, though noticed it changed considerably (for the worst) on the second day.

I'll be keeping it, just drinking quicker. ;) I'm not good at explaining wines, but the flavour profile changed a lot on the second day. That smoothness it had on the first day was also gone. No complaints about Day 1.

Oh boy, I've just been sampling the Basham's over the last two nights and whilst qualifying this statement heavily I can only say it's not a wine for me. It's got a kind of coarseness to it coupled with the definitely salty finish that is engaging on the first night but is in a shambles by the second, I've not really experienced a wine fall apart like that before, if anything the tendency is for many wines to open up and improve by the second or even third night. I really wanted to like this wine (first Hewiston's I've bought) but it's going to leave this house tucked under the burly arm of a Tasfreight courier sometime soon, onwards and upwards ;)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it might be the Moppity Vineyards Estate Hilltops Cabernet Sauvignon.

The price is similar ($32 vs $35), the alcohol matches and the number of awards and golds are very similar. JH has listed slightly fewer, but that may have changed since the review was published.

I came to the same conclusion.

I amglad there is a concensus on this wine...I now conclude the conclusions but ask, did anyone buy any?

To answer your second question, I couldnt help myself unfortunately, but then again, I am offliading some of the exceptional empilin tempy to the lady selling my mums house. Strange, but true. So freeing up a few dollars.

It sounds damn good.......what doesnt with the fo.....full bodied.....tick. so we shall see. I havent bought a straight cab since the fox gordon ainties and aunts 2014 cab, so why not. I am feeling ebullient after the spring racing success, so time to sit back with a nice cheroot, and also the king...

The king of grapes of course......

Now I wonder if this bot is one that might tempt both of our learned colleagues, at least to share with. Hmm, its a real test of patience, and do you really believe the selling quickly tag?

Whats your address wd? I am not joking, my agent would happily have paid twenny five a bot for hers, but shes getting it at cost.

I speak of the epy tempy.

Am I the only lucky bugger who bpught it?just hit the biy on this one befoe u miss

Maybe a better tip than hartwell

The Moppity Hills Estate Cabernet definitely has the right score, and right amount of 'gold medals', but the price on the website is $32 not $35. Perhaps just a mistake from Vinomofo.

A quick look through Wine Companion seems to show that the only 96pt Cabernet from NSW in 2014 is the Moppity Estate Hilltops

I apologize for my woeful typing above, but it was done at lunchtime with a phone that has recently been run over, but is still alive.
The problem is the screen with it's now many facetes, a bit like the old girls engagement ring. Difference being that one the rock is as tough as you can get, whilst the screen protector has done a marvellous job. I can talk, but typing presents many problems as seeing the words is a little difficult.
I hear you out there saying get a new screen, it's easy but in my case, the new screen would be flat but my phone now is curved.

Now at home, I got delivered my only French wine purchase from anywhere, anytime. This being the Fo's 'Cave de Roquebrun 2013 red blend". Again, it has a stack or awards to its name, and further inspection tonight shows a wonderful pedigree going back many years. It should be good and I am not worried at all. But I did chuckle when I saw their advertisement for it. They typed Roqueburn, not Rocqubrun. Not the first typo for them is it !

Ahhh...couldn't get to the page before on the mobile version! I figured somebody had beat me to it. Will stick with the full site version from now on. Thanks guys!

Will BEE interested to read your review if forthcoming, made a rookies mistake of gifting a friend a bottle of the Le grange des combes 2013 before tasting..

Couldn't send back, fair to say the August menu in the Kohen villa consisted of multiple roqueburn infused ragu's, 7 gold medals amongst some tasty MSA chuck

It's got to be several steps up from the Bashams's but it seems like the VM well has run dry, have you got any left after the realtor has had her fill?
