Aussie Ah Bengs descend on Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia especially in the big cities is not so conservative when compared to Saudi, UAE, Egypt or even Turkey. 40% of the population of Malaysia is not Muslim. In casual situations (mall, cinema, markets) you'll see the local Chinese and Indians in shorts and a t-shirt. Going to a nightclub in...

JQ NZ Domestic flights for 1c

It is just a promotional thing to get attention. Bettering a similar offer from AirNZ. Seems to be a common tactic with low cost carriers. It is only limited to 3000 flights total, likely also restricted to flights at off peak times. It has already given them a lot of free promotion. They make...

MAS to (finally!) join OneWorld [February 1, not in December]

In fairness to MAS, the December date only came from some unnamed 'spokeperson' that Ausbt spoke with. The official line from MAS has always been around the turn of the year, which February fits at a stretch.

    Help yourself snacks on A380

The A330-300 definitely has a self service bar on the left hand side of the business galley. I believe there is a self service bar for economy at the back galley on the left, although I have never been down there to see it. The international A330-200 also has has a self service bar from what I...

    Help yourself snacks on A380

It depends on which config plane you get. On the old config there are self service bars for Y, Y+ and J. On the new A380 config there are 2 (or is it 3) less self service bars. The on at the front of economy has been removed and the one at the back of the top deck has been removed. There is no...

Should P1's and CL be "guaranteed" seat selection?

Not sure that they would ever offer a guaranteed seat selection. But as a P1 I generally always end up with a good seat even if I don't select a seat. A few times on 737s I haven't done advanced seat selection, just waited until check in and it came up with 4A automatically. For international...

Bombshell (for me) - New travel policy

Just got to play the hand you are dealt. Learn the best way to work within the new travel policy. Although the no SCs for Qantas is a bit harsh. See if you can negotiate some exceptions to the policy with your manager, try to frame them as being of benefit to company. I have to work within a...

    Selling QFF points on eBay

It is cheaper that what Qantas sell their points for - $500 would only get you 17,000 points buying from Qantas. Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Top-up Points

    Jakarta Lounges (CGK)

In August, I flew on a Jetstar VF flight CGK-SIN. As i noted previously in this thread, I got access at to the JAS Executive Lounge no trouble as a Qantas P1. Was expecting to be turned away as it is an associated lounge. My understanding was the QF status only got access to actual Qantas...

What to wear in J class

Simple, wear the same clothes you would have worn in Y class. No need to dress differently because of the class of travel. Personally I travel light and casual most of the time. Shorts and t-shirt as most of my international travel tends to be to warm climates. Jeans, t-shirt and maybe a jacket...

    Platinum One Avis offer

Just got an offer from Qantas for P1s for a complimentary weekend rental of a car from Avis. Quite a good freebee as you can choose any car in the Avis fleet.

    In-seat power in J on OZ A330-300

It has been a few years since I flew on Asiana but I believe it is a universal socket (US/Japan, Australia/NZ and Europe) at 110 volts. Has a rotating child safety cover that can be a bit tricky.

Accessing BNE business lounge for BNE-SYD leg of QF8

Just be careful it is the first flight of the day that leaves from the international terminal. So you won't be able to go too early. The flight is schedule to leave at 6:30am. The lounge opens at 5am.

    Window Blinds on Transcon Flights

Having all the blinds closed does reduce the noise in the cabin by 3 to 5dB. Personally not big of an issue to me. If you want the blind open then open it, if you want it closed close it.

    DOHA Best one world options

You could fly on Cathay MEL-xHKG-BAH. Then fly on BA BAH-DOH. Sometimes the first class fares are quite cheap so it can be a good status run. Despite being only 123km you still earn 60 SC per leg.

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Yes it is good. Since they switched to the spring menu in September they dropped pork belly from the main menu although it has been on the daily specials the two times I have been since. There is now a duck salad that is pretty good.

    Free WiFi - Domestic Terminals

BNE already has free airport provided wifi both in departure areas of both international and domestic terminals. It was introduced a few months ago. It is good that QF are also providing it. But I can't see a big rush of JQ, TT and VA customers to walk over to the QF section just to use QF wifi...

Which city-country has the most A380 services?

Also 5 airlines current operate A380s to Singapore - SQ, QF, AF, LH, TG. Briefly it will be up to 6 when EK start flying an A380 there in December, but will soon drop back to 5 afterwards when TG drop their A380 from the route. And of course QF will stop next year.

    Cheapest Destinations

I would agree if it was a meal by itself. But on that list it was a three course meal with a bottle of wine. All wine is imported into Malaysia and there is a pretty high sales tax on it. So it is quite believable that a three course meal with a bottle of wine would be more in Penang.

What do flight attendants think of you?

Looks like a rehash of http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/open-discussion/flight-attendants-dish-their-jobs-43115.html Same author, different article title, just rehashing the same material for a different publication.
