Best oneworld J lounge in TPE

The Evergreen lounge is the EVA Air's lounge. I would expect you wouldn't get access to that unless you are flying with them. They are set to join star alliance next year. The Cathay business lounge is pretty good. It has a noodle bar which is pretty good. It has a funny little first lounge at...

iOS6 - who has it and what do you think?

I saw this on another forum... from looking at YYZ in maps it looks like the runway is a little bit bumpy.

    Apple iPhone 5

Except the benchmarking does not support that claim. Although the article claims the iPhone 5 gets a higher score that does not seem to be the case. A different article claims the S3 is faster iPhone 5 benchmarks: Slower than the Galaxy S3, faster than the Nexus 7 | ExtremeTech And if you browse...

Chances of getting an earlier flight/being forward loaded tomorrow evening (MEL-BNE)

Re: Chances of getting an earlier flight/being forward loaded tomorrow evening (MEL-B Occasionally flying BNE-MEL and vv the next gen kiosk offers an earlier flight. Even on some rare occasions it will offer a routing via Sydney. This seems to be independent of the fare class. But I don't think...

QF J sale across the ditch

The sale ended yesterday. But there is still a business sale of NZ$599 if you buy tickets that originate in NZ to SYD, BNE and MEL. Although that sale ends tonight. So only a few hours left for that.

    Air NZ to upgrade 777-200ERs

I wonder if this upgrade will mean economy will go from 3-3-3 rows to 3-4-3 rows.

Candy bars and Pizza ovens in domestic lounges

The jaffas are relatively new, maybe in the last 6 months. But other candies had been around for while - licorice allsorts, milk bottle candies and usually some sort of dried fruit. I think they come out some time after breakfast. Normally situated next to the automatic coffee machines in both...

P1 Special Service Team and "looking after you in irreg ops"

I was somehow under the impression they were for international flights. But going back and reading the website it makes no distinction between the two. The language is a bit vague as to whether they will proactively help out or just sit back and wait for a call. Since becoming P1 I had the...

    Backpacker J PJs

I have seen the a Qantas PJ top being sold in a second hand clothes market in Manila on a t-shirt rack. Most of the clothes appeared to come from clothing bin donations from western countries.

    Advice re Compact Camera

For low light conditions you really want a camera with a fast lens. So look for a camera with low f-number. A fast lens allows more light to hit the cameras sensor allowing you to use a shorter exposure time. The another feature you will want for low light conditions is a camera with a high...

First lot of rows in economy class

That is true. However the OP posted this question in the Virgin discussion board so my assumption was they were asking about Virgin aircraft. As Virgin and Qantas have different seat layouts what you find on one carrier will not always follow to another carrier.

First lot of rows in economy class

Row 3 on Virgin certainly has more leg room, it seems even more than row 4 on Qantas. I have travelled on the BSI planes as well as the refurbished planes to me there doesn't seem to be any greater seat pitch in rows 4 or 5. To really know for sure would be best to measure the seat pitch.

How will I stop off in Bangkok?

Qantas will keep flying to BKK. Emirates fly to BKK to DXB, if Qantas offer a codeshare on that flight you could take that to DXB then catch a Qantas flight to LHR.

    Eligible SC(~) vs Ineligible SC?

Although Jetstar flights do get the ~ but don't count towards the 2700 requirement as they are not QF flight numbers.

coughpy seats in new Qantas Boeing aircraft

To me the new seats seem straighter. They don't have the same lumbar support as the old seats. It is ok for short flights. But i tend to notice it for longer flights. Could be just is the difference between a new seat and one that has been worn in a bit after a few years use. Can't say I have...

    Ask The Pilot

I can recall hearing the A4s had an advantage in that their heat signature was a lot less than that of the F18. So during war games it was easier for the A4s to get lock on the F18s than the other way around.

    What's YOUR QFF goal?

My travel is quite unpredictable so not sure if is worth having set goals. But would like to maintain platinum or better. If not gold would do. Like others LTS is a short way off and LTG is further down the track. So just accumulating towards them. Accumulating points as I want to go first...

    The Qantas International Airport Experience

I haven't experienced any issues at SYD or MEL. Had the occasional wait at BNE. Maybe I don't fly at peak times. The precleared immigration check at AKL seems to work pretty well. There is a immigration officer down in the Qantas premium check in lounge. They do the customs clearance there and...

Potential Stow Away possibly dropped from an aircraft at LHR

There are actually a few reports of people surviving the trip in the landing gear. Airplane stowaways are not uncommon, but very few survive - Quincy, MA - The Patriot Ledger That article reports a 17% survival rate from the FAA. Likely the actual figure is a bit higher as there might be some...

Best And Worst person you have had to Sit next to on a plane

Best: There is a woman that I met travelling. By coincidence we often end up sitting in the same row on domestic flights. Always have a great chat with her. Became friends outside of travelling. Worst: Anyone that overflows into my seat. Someone with bad BO or little old ladies that seem to be...
