VA bringing baggage handling in BNE, SYD and MEL on both Domestic and Short Haul Int'l back in house.

From my perspective, from the plane or lounge window, Virgin has one of the slickest ground operations out there. Love looking out the window as my (quite often, late arriving) aircraft pulls up to a gate, and see the ground team all standing on their marks ready to pounce on the plane and turn...

    Qatar Airways bans Youtuber

I think his excellency thought he owned Joshy's cough, haha Reality is, most youtubers/influencers are easily bought, there are a few which aren't (like nonstopdan, mentioned earlier, and Josh)... and, IMO, the only ones worth listening to!

Kerbside Uber pickup Sydney T3 from 21/12

But... did I read somewhere else that they will not be using the MEL PIN style system? Catching an uber at the main Melbourne (T2) pick up is so easy (I discount anything done at the T5 car park as being useful or efficient, yes T5, that car park is certainly not conveniently located anywhere...

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

I hope VA learns from American Airlines mess up, when AA also densified their cabins with the same new MiQ seats. The original (off-the-shelf) cabin divider (below) simply didn't add enough definition or privacy to the First Class section. source: We tried American's new-and-improved domestic...

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

I had a silkair the other week too, but no one from Y was sent back, small queues formed a few times. The CM was lacklustre in quality J cabin service too. I think VA management needs to start focusing on driving out those CMs who have lost their drive to provide excellent service.

Do you prefer silent airport lounges & terminals with no announcements?

Normally I like announcements, and displays. The exception is the TG F Lounge in BKK, which has neither. When you travel first class Thai believes such matters are (quite rightly) beneath you. So, when the time is right, someone will come and collect you from your lounge chair (or the spa) and...

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Oh noooooo! I hope they are not moving to the USA style bulkhead seat pitch - where row 1 in domestic first class is generally to be avoided, on most narrow body US airlines' recliners, as there is not enough space for average or longer length legs to stretch out, making the experience feel...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

I just wanted to revisit the lamb rissole, which has already been posted about once before. This dish comes with some sides, which IMO add a very Greek component to the flavour, once combined with the lamb - so you don't have to rely solely on the tomato based sauce already on the dish, to add...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Ummmmm, you nearly always have time for a drink top up between "prepare the cabin" and "seat belt sign on"! This is not no-service Qantas, it is full service Virgin!! The CM won't proactively offer you more after "prepare the cabin", but you can still request a drink... BUT, if served in a...

Article: Why Airlines Love European Business Class

Let's not forget that Virgin Blue had blocked middle seats for a while, also using a tray to cover the middle seat (plus arm rests that moved in slightly as well) - marketed as premium economy. source: Virgin Blue Upgrades Premium Economy - Spice News Also see trip report here QF Business vs...

    Bonza Airline Discussion

Ummmm, my entire point is about the wet leasing a foreign airline for purely domestic service, not sure how setting up a local company structure, to fly internationally, which would employ Australians to do so, is even a relevant example. This is about setting up a domestic airline, and crewing...

    Bonza Airline Discussion

How does an Australian registered domestic airline, operate a wet lease using a foreign airline crew and aircraft, on a purely domestic route? Surely if this was possible; then we would have an influx of domestic shell companies set up by foreign airlines, and the domestic shell company would...

Platinums can now use complimentary upgrade from a Choice fare

With Virgin's new price model being similar to how legacy airlines structure pricing in the USA: where the lead in Business price point is often lower than the highest Flex Economy price, I didn't use a single Plat-upgrade last year, as it was better value to just buy Business outright. So all...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

This year, when in 2F, as a WP I have had my order taken first just over 50% of the time. At the end of last month in 1A, I had my order taken second after a Beyond (nee Club) in 2C had theirs taken first. (I have also sat in 2A before and seen the CM continue around in an anti-clockwise circle...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

I am sure that would be a disappointing change for you, so it seems servicerequired might be suggesting a new service standard edict has been issued a few weeks back to zig-zag serve 1A-2F on all flights without deviation? (Although, of course at VA we need to delineate between order taking...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

No. They always take beyond orders first. Mostly served zig-zag. Some CMs will prioritise platinum Generally if the CM doesn't start at 1A, they will work logically around from where they started. Generally those just having a drink/snack will receive it before those who ordered a meal...

Platinums can now use complimentary upgrade from a Choice fare

I agree: If they can be used from Flex to Business based on sectors (not flight length), then for consistency and simplicity, the same should be the case for Choice to Business IMO. (For those wanting more, the trade off would probably be the Flex to Business ones becoming length based as well!?)

Disinfectant Spray on arrival at SYD

I thought that some airlines also had the ventilation systems set up in such a way, that insecticide could be sprayed via the aircraft's systems (during landing), mitigating the need to do the aisle spray walk on arrival?

    Virgin priority boarding fail

I had a non-delayed flight out of SYD last week. Full general boarding (all rows) called about a minute after priority boarding was called (and still in full swing). There was a manager and two staff at the gate counter, looked like a time and motion study. (There were also SYD airport people in...
