You would 'change' your flight to the same flight, pay the change fee, pay any fare difference and add a bundle. The change fee alone is already $70 per domestic sector so that might be enough of a deterrent. The T&Cs also say that you forfeit the right to get a voucher refund on a max bundle...

I think this is the main issue. Most people are either not aware of this or they simply do not care. They just want more classic rewards because that is the dream that was being sold to them. If that means the executives go without multi million dollar bonuses every year then so be it.
