Have you tried booking over the phone? BA search engine often doesn't price up QR awards even when available, and QF search engine has a bad habit of only showing economy online (perhaps to keep Emirates happy!). Try ringing and you should get booking fees waived as you are unable to book it online.

Indeed, although it's a shame AA will not price Australia to Europe on EY as a single award (unlike on QF and QR). I am hence looking for F to AUH and then J after that.

Yes, you could cancel, but there is no immediate advantage unless they pro-rata refund the annual fee even after using the free flight - and there are mixed reports on this. Also, it can be good to have multiple cards on the go to maximise Amex offers, especially the upcoming shop small promo.

Instead of cancelling you could ask Amex to reduce the credit limit to the minimum across all your cards, they should be quite accommodating of such a request and this may make your combined credit limited look less intimating to citibank.
