The rules are based on the operating flight. If they’re on a QR flight with VA status then lounge access is available.

Good to hear that was sorted, but just something to note, your MAN-AUH flight was either on a 787-10 or 787-9. Looking at FR24 for the last few days there was a day where one of the AUH-MEL flights was operated by a 789 instead of a 77W, that must have been the day you were due to travel.

Transit it's checked through, stopover (or non-connecting flights) it would just be checked to DOH. I'm flying AMS-DOH-BNE next month and my layover is 20 hours. Unfortunately I can't leave the airport, but my bag will be checked to BNE.

I don't think QR do stopovers (like SQ do for example). You may need to do a multi-city booking to include DOH.
