    The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Yes, the rules for Qantas Club membership are that you need to be flying Qantas in economy or premium economy (or Jetstar or I think maybe Emirates under certain conditions) to access a Qantas Club lounge. If flying business or above, you have access to One World lounges.

Fake Qantas Telephone Scam currently active

Oh … I just assumed this thread was a reference to the FF program itself … nothing to see here, carry on!

Finding discount paid J fares AU-EU

Google Flights right now are showing return to Rome in J for about $11.5k, for two, flying Royal Jordanian and … I think SAS. For next Feb. The return leg has some long waits in airports, mind you … there was another combo including Singapore for about $13k, it had shorter connection waits.

    Scams like these

@JohnK ... do you actually have an ANZ credit card? 🙃 Are you sure the scam isn't them selling upvotes (ie. marketing - pretending to give real 5-star reviews) to the places you're voting for, which is probably down at the more immoral end of a scale between immoral & illegal?

Family of 5, are points and rewards still worth pursuing? particularly if using platforms like pay.com.au?

Of course, the very best way to travel as parents would be in J, then send the kids down the back for the Y pax & staff to deal with - bingo/bango, perfick flight!

Family of 5, are points and rewards still worth pursuing? particularly if using platforms like pay.com.au?

Maths, it’s maths not math. :) Points should, IMHO, be considered a pleasant surprise that’s potentially a lucky side-effect of something you were going to do anyway. Plenty of people pay a lot of money to achieve points, same as plenty of people avoid income to avoid paying tax. There are...

3 months away and many airlines

#1 has always been the case hasn’t it? I didn’t think QF were particularly an outlier on the food front … maybe the others you’ve experienced all improved their Y food while QF spent the last decade wallowing? QF’s aircraft are getting pretty old … they seem to keep ‘em forever & when was the...

    Scams like these

I’m pretty sure that’s them. I was given a little card over 5 years ago, I think it was in with one of those Hello Fresh or similar boxes of ingredients & recipes. Something like $100 value of wine, but you had to sign up. I did. And I’m pretty sure where this comes from (have had it before).

    Scams like these

Lame attempt from some "wine club" today. Called me & asked whether it was a good time ... I said no, and also that we're moving so I'm not buying ... then he started trying REALLY hard to sell me, so I just hung up.

    China Airlines business class?

I have to say, if their website isn’t lying then they’ve very much upped their inflight meal game since 2018! https://www.china-airlines.com/us/en/fly/on-board/fleet/onboard_dining_introductions

Best travel insurance [Is Qantas TI any good]

I think the modern process is to assume something is bad because it's marketed by Qantas. :) I've been served well by credit card insurance in the past, but nothing that terrible happened to me (just the one rental excess when I tried to push an Adelaide hotel down from the inside using a...

    China Airlines business class?

We definitely didn't have this SYD-TPE in 2018 ... can't recall anything about service speed, but I had plenty of time to toss & turn fruitlessly for at least 5-6 hours then getting a movie in before I-wish-I-hadn't-ordered-the-congee. :)

Carry on Baggage Question Qantas Domestic

Yes … total weight limits for the aircraft, also the overhead lockers can’t hold an infinite weight (although they’ll handle a helluva lot more than the allowed maximum :)). FA’s also need to move hand-luggage at times.

Article: The Worst Ways to Use Frequent Flyer Points

I think the Stuff you used to be able to buy on points costs a lot more points now than it used to 15-ish years ago, but back then even though my travelling workmates would tell me it was a "bad use of points instead of getting J upgrades" we just never had an opportunity to go anywhere. And...

Global CrowdStrike IT outage impacting airports and more

To be honest & having thought about it over the weekend, apart from a few Maccas meals tasting more unusual than normal & potentially the occasional child's party ... how did so many people even notice a clown strike?

Global CrowdStrike IT outage impacting airports and more

I’d be pretty certain that’s a gross simplification for the purpose of avoiding a super detailed technical explanation. :)
