Emirates Resumes A380 to Australia/New Zealand

Yeah, thanks for zombifying this thread with a non-relevant comment. Flying back to BNE in a couple of weeks, and it almost gave me a heart attack!

OLCI "A boarding pass hasn't been issued as we need to collect a few details"

I had zero requests for vaccination certificates going to the UK in June, transiting in Dubai, entering France, Switzerland aand Italy, and the reverse trip. I believe Singapore is more of an exception.

Flew Etihad business, what is this metal plate for?

That requires going back into economy! *shudder*

Qatar or Emirates as QFF for Sydney - Europe Business Class?

I had my first solo lie-flat (aka horizontal, at an angle is still 'flat'. Pet peeve) with Malaysia Airlines 'throne seat'. They do alternate 1-2-1 and 2-2-2 rows. Get a 1-2-1, and your single seat has the same room as two. Get a bulkhead, and you get extra room for feet. My first solo was...

Qatar or Emirates as QFF for Sydney - Europe Business Class?

I can recommend emirates, especially the a380 with the 1-2-1 layout if you're travelling alone. I haven't tried Qatar, but from what I've seen it may well be better, depending on the plane. That's possible to change however. Emirates changed my long legs (au to UAE) to the a380, so I got my...

Qatar or Emirates as QFF for Sydney - Europe Business Class?

No chauffeur on award tickets with emirates, for sure. Only fully paid ones.

What are your hotel room habits or idiosyncrasies?

Rinse and/or wash all glasses/cups before use. I've seen some gnarly utube videos! 1660311462 And removing all the bleeding throw cushions! Who invented those idiotic things, anyway? And removing the 'shoe protection' blanket thing from the bed. I don't wear shoes in a hotel room ever since I've...

Flew Etihad business, what is this metal plate for?

And I have mixed feelings about the pre-mixed salad dressings. I like the bottle, because you can emulsify the dressing before application by shaking it (very important or it all goes Pete Tong). Unfortunately, I can't choose the mix ratio, though. That's important to me because acidic things...

    Assistance at airports

To add information shared in PM, this can be requested on booking, especially with a travel agent, and possibly on a web site. If not, you should ring the airline. It can be booked on check-in, but assistance may not be available these days, or it may take longer at the airport. I've actually...

    changing .com.au to .au

You don't even need a relevant business name. I registered the name of my previous employer (they were US based) under .com.au and nobody batted an eyelid. The company did, because I kept nicking their customers, however. They registered their business as a trademark in Australia and slapped me...

    changing .com.au to .au

Absolutely! When I started out, it was ONLY Melbourne IT who could register the domains. A real bit of cronyism. I had a decent deal, but they tried to charge full price every renewal. One time, they refused to offer a deal. I was at the airport, and my email suddenly stopped, so I phoned. Of...

    changing .com.au to .au

There's no 'end' to these domain names, merely a tighter control over their use. You need to have an organisation or trademark of the same name. It's just to weed out people jumping on to Australian domain names without a relevant commercial or organisational interest.

    EK vaccination requirement

Flew into the UK with emirates via Dubai, nobody asked for vaccination certificate. Been to France, Switzerland and Italy, again, nobody asked. I don't think there are any restrictions in place any more.

Best way to roam these days in England and Italy

Thanks, but sadly, neither of my phones appear to support this, even though one is a very recent Galaxy Fold 3. Ho hum.

Best way to roam these days in England and Italy

Hah! Yes, it seems that roaming is restored now. I turned the sim back on today, and I've actually got a signal, and it's registered on the network. I don't know about WiFi calling, I've never used that, or been able to afaik.

    Assistance at airports

I've been doing this for years with my wife who is in a wheelchair. Before she was confined to a wheelchair, it was like this: You get off the plane last, or last in your class for international flights. If you can make it to the door, a wheelchair and attendant are waiting for you. If not...

    Gold/Platinum status devalued

That is despicable. How are you supposed to abuse a lounge properly in only one hour? Heck, 30 minutes really, because boarding starts then. I usually like to go for afternoon departures and arrive a good three hours beforehand, just to get nicely blotto (assuming I'm not driving soon), and...

Best way to roam these days in England and Italy

Yes, I use MTX connect as a spare eSim on my phone (it allows a physical and an esim simultaneously, which I like). The data is quite expensive, like €0.012 a MB (€12 a GB), but it works pretty much everywhere in the world. I keep it off generally, keeping in reserve for emergencies. I detest...

Best way to roam these days in England and Italy

I use O2 in the UK, and it also works in italy. Probably not Singapore, though. £10 a month gets you 10GB, £15 gets 17GB. Both with text and calls. 02 stays valid without recharge as long as you do something that costs within 9 months. I just send myself a text to my Oz number for £2.50 once...

How can/should I use my Expiring Miles?

To stay. I'm in Italy right now, and am travelling through France back to the UK next week. Next year I'll be here again, I just don't know exactly when. I'll book them for a period that I'm pretty sure I'll be here.
