First Class Host assistance though C & I

When I checked in as a WP on a J flight, I was not escorted through C&I, but was given an "express lane" card that allowed me to bypass the normal queu and present at a dedicated C&I desk. First time I have seen this, and it was most welcome. They do not however have a similar "express...

    New Qantas First class

I agree, it is very good. The full waiter service meal is top class, and the wine list is quite good (yummy Yerring Station Pinot :)). You can also order proper coffee from the espresso machine at the table, while there is just the normal vending style machine in the lounge proper. Even if...

    New Qantas First class

I hope they continue to be this generous. I am taking the family (wife and 2 children) to US in Sept, and only I have any status (WP) and would love to get them into the new FLounge. I am only 200SC away from Partner SG, so will hopefully have that by the end of current qualifying period, 31...

New York - Midtown a good place to stay?

The trip was back in 1986/7, so a bit long ago to put together a trip report, but it was a lot of fun. A really good way to see a lot of the country, which has plenty of very interesting places to visit. You will love NYC is my guess. It is just so much bigger than cities in Aust  ...

New York - Midtown a good place to stay?

Going back (quite) a few years, 2 friends and I did the drive from LA to NYC, but took the scenic route just to make it interesting :) . We took the fairly standard route through to about Memphis (where we had xmas and a mate's wedding), but then headed south to New Orleans for New Year (now...

    Muscat in J

I am confident it would have been the Morris, and it is always good, as stated by NM above (Rutherglen is a great region for fortifieds). Taylors are not well known as muscat producers. The Taylors mention would have been a riesling, they often have a Taylors riesling in J (also very good...

    Going for Plat

As she is only 85 SCs away, she obviously does a bit of flying, so the extra points for WP will add up. However, considering that points are not that useable these days, the amount of that benefit is hard to determine. As she is SG and usually flies with you, the lounge access is not a real...

CCard travel insurance for free flights

I will preface this by saying I am definitely not an expert :) . However, I have a CBA Plat MC, which also offers free travel insurance for travel paid for on the card. I am doing a US trip in Sept booked on points, but with the taxes/fines paid for on the card. I rang and queried if the...

QF F lounge Closures in '06 (Sydney & Melbourne)

Thanks. Hopefully, the fact a "Vino Philistine" ;) cannot recognise the red wine listing is probably a good thing, indicating they have some of the more obscure and higher quality labels available (fingers crossed :) ). I'll keep hoping someone finds the spa and tries a massage in the next...

Qantas 'the flying dog': poll ..... Are they right?

But they don't have preferences in the Upper Field, it is first past the fencepost. Therefore, there would be a hung farmament, and they would all die of starvation  .

Qantas 'the flying dog': poll ..... Are they right?

So does anyone know the number of crew on international 747 for Singapore Airlines and other competitors? Do others have more or less than Qantas?

Work paying for F and J flights

I didn't consider it ciriticism, and I hope my reply was not sensed as being too reactive :) . Owning a small business is something I can only have the greatest admiration for, I could never do it.

Work paying for F and J flights

I understand your position, but its a case of taking the good with the bad. I assume you own the small business? If so, then that is a choice you have made for your own reasons, probably including not having to work for a boss and you also get the benefit from your efforts. If you save money by...

Work paying for F and J flights

That sucks. I trust that if 2 people are travelling together, one in Y and 1 in J, that when they arrive the J traveller is expected dig in straight away, while the Y traveller gets to spend 12 hours recuperating first (as if ;) ).

Work paying for F and J flights

One thing I like about our company policy is that it does not discriminate based on seniority. The policy is the same for all (well at least up to VP level anyway), if you are flying internationally, you go J. Let's face it, no matter what level you are, the trip is the same length and you...

Work paying for F and J flights

I work for a large multi-national, and company policy is J for international and Y for domestic (which I can live with). I travel once a month or so domestically, mainly Mel/Bri/Syd, and international 2 or 3 times a year to Europe or Canada. Which keeps me comfortably WP, and sometimes gets...

QF F lounge Closures in '06 (Sydney & Melbourne)

I agree the whisky offerings do not "cut the mustard" for a FLounge. So what is the wine/champagne list like? You mentioned Noble One in an earlier post, which seems to indicate a reasonable selection, but it is the red wine list that will be the clincher (for me anyway :) ). Has anyone...

QF F lounge Closures in '06 (Sydney & Melbourne)

It makes sense for meals, so they can determine how long before boarding and ensure the meal can be served in plenty of time. This doesn't seem relevant for drinks though.

QF F lounge Closures in '06 (Sydney & Melbourne)

First report from the new FLounge, and it sounds good :D . So what was the wine list like for lunch (not that is my main priority of course ;) )? I trust the MEL FLounge will be just as good, can't wait for my first visit next month.

    Carry on Luggage

At least it is no longer a requirement to remove the battery from the laptop. That was a pain, especially as many pax did not even know where the battery was, let alone how to remove it  .
