I applied for the Signature card on Tuesday. Lady called me up on Wednesday after speaking to my employer, and informed me the application was successful.

Today I get an email saying I have been approved for the PLATINUM card. When I check my application on the website, it says declined for Signature card.

What the hell? Income over $100k and no debts.

Ring then back up NOW and find out for the hell of it! Something has gone a miss in between there.....

I would say you were declined the Signature card because you may not have qualified for the minimum credit limit of $15k, where as the Platinum card has a significantly lower limit of $6k

If you try again you might want to try my little trick... ;) Apply with a 15k balance transfer  set the bait and see what happens

I did. They said they cannot tell me why it was declined.

Also if you have got a few cards you can under quote your current limits by exploiting the "(exclude those that you intend to close upon opening this facility)" trick

If you have income of over 100k you should qualify, perhaps you have "too many" cards already...? (too many cards then use the trick as above...) Income 100k, fair enough, but what's shown on your tax statement...? You don't have a lot of deductibles do you that is bringing your taxable income down do you...?

For the record I am a sole trader, with ATO reportable taxable income significantly lower than 100k, with over 30k existing limits on other cards, but was still approved by citi for the Signature card this time around.with a limit >$20k.. Go figure

Interesting. I only have a AMEX $5K limit and Coles Mastercard $1k limit.

No deductions on my payslips at all. Good credit history too.

How long should I wait till I re-apply?

Low limits for a $100k income... Did you request these or were they the default limits given to you...? If these were the limits jut given to you then there's something wrong as you should have been given more IMHO...a lot more...! But if you requested these limits then that's not a problem...

Might be worth checking out your credit file / score on Veda if you are seeking more credit facility in the future.

You might have good income, but there might be something on your credit file which you will only find out by requesting a copy, you can get a free copy, but it might take several weeks, if you pay for it it will come usually within 24 hours via email.

I subscribe to Veda Alert, and find it quite a good investment to keep an eye of what's happening with my credit file....

Nah the AMEX used to be $15k, and I dropped it to $5k. Coles Mastercard $1k was what I requested (only got the card for a bonus).

Where on the form do you apply for the BT?

AMEX gets paid out in full every month (never paid a cent interest on it).

Have applied for my VEDA score, so will see what happens. Never been late on paying a bill tho, so I doubt there will be anything on there.

Do you recommend I keep the PLATINUM card they have given me, or should I cancel it and re-apply for the SIGNATURE?

I'd be pushing for the Signature card.... When you applied to Citi Signature, did you request a limit or leave it blank, if you requested under $15k then that would kill your application...

Can we transfer to any airline programs with the platinum??

Nope. Which is why I'm a bit pissed about getting PLATINUM. You can only get Qantas Rewards on the SIGNATURE card.

The signature limit I requested was the minimum $15k. Would you recommend applying again with a limit of $20k with $15k BT? (75%)

What is the plat good for? Just the dining program?? And the warranty and insurances?

How close to the 15k credit limit did you get on your approved PLATINUM...?

Not sure... haven't received the card in the mail yet.

Is there somewhere online I can check?

Wait for the letter in the mail, see how close you are to the 15k minimum required for the Signature card, if you are close then give them a call and push for the Signature card, to get you over the line if you are close but they don't want to listen to you you could always try the BT trick or threaten to cancel... Not much else you can do I think

Citi policy, you have to wait for 9 months after you get any credit cards from them before you apply for a new one.

Why would you want this card for Qantas transfer anyway...?

Enrolment in the Citibank Qantas Rewards program can be requested on card activation or after approval of new card by contacting Citibank on 1800 818 008.

Why not just get the PLATINUM Qantas Everyday Rewards Credit Card for an extra $40 per year and the 16,000 QFF sign on bonus...? Or better still the Amex Discovery Card $0 p.a and 1:1 direct sweep to QFF

Most people will be using this to transfer to Kris Flyer I think...

this is is my plan with the signiture. Assuming it should replace my Westpac KF Plat and I can ditch it and it's ~$300 yearly fee for this is new free plat card with the same benefits.

unless Master Cove recommends otherwise

Everyone has different circumstances so all you really need to know is the first million frequent flyer points are the hardest.
This thread offer is really good.
