25.99% is the new rate on amex from 8th October according to a little note at the bottom of my list of transactions. Are all amex customers on this usurious rate or only those on the bonus promo? Many punters will be paying for their flights in interst:shock:

According to my statement I am on 19.99%, nothing about any other interest rate.

more data points :

Received the hard copy of my monthly account to find it stating that there has been no pocing and no docking ... the first 5000 points are there along with a heap of other bonus points .. and no adjustments.

Checking back on line .. and it opines that I am still poc'd and docked.

I guess they will eventually find some commonality..

Lettered today and my duplicate program registrations have been ..er... adjusted .. to 5 for 10.

I'm happy with that outcome and relieved to have some closure.

BTW .. I assume that the bit on the bottom about bonus points .. means illegitimate (sic) points credited as a result of multiple registrations .. my "other" bonus points are posting ok.

The letter states:

"5000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points when you use your Card every 10 transactions, up until 31 December 2008".

Clearly, this means that I should get 5,000 points for every 10 transactions up to 31 December 2008.

My point being that the clause regarding starting from Zero transaction at the start of every month is OMITTED. So, if i have 9 transaction in Sep, then my first transaction in Oct should entitle me to 5,000 points.

They just dug themselves another HOLE? lol.

The above is just another point. I am not giving up the fact that they AMENDED OUR AGREEMENT (which was 5k for 5 transactions) without prior speaking to me. How is that possible when we are not in breach of any of the ORIGINAL conditions. That is just WRONG and UNACCEPTABLE.

I was advised today by the Amex Executive team that letters are now being sent (and have been sent), so if I dont receive mine by mid next week to give them a call.

He said he doesn't know the exact details of what is in the letter as it is all being handled by 'higher ups.'

Hope it's good news, so I suggest if you havn't got a letter yet expect one next week.

I only applied for the 20 transactions/10K points bugger. Movember Charity is now on and you can use your Amex credit card.
www.movember.com or if you would like to donate to my nephews
mo PM myself and I'll foward the link. $2 is tax deductible so I can
see a few transactions racking up.

That's a good idea, personally I've never found an address I can write to amex with. I've had other issues with amex, mailed them letters, and never gotten a reply. They insist I call their lines.

Try :
GPO BOX 1582
Sydney 2001
NSW

Or Executive Customer Relations:
02 97219696 / 02 97214767 rather than ringing the 1300 Number.

My letter says they will remove any points accrued under any offers other than the one they just put me on.

Any idea how they do that, given my points balance is 0, after they removed 3700 or so points during the POC cycle?

One would assume from your future earn...bearing in mind they stopped awrading points in Sept...but you can keep earning them till Dec 31.

Now you could stop earning...but then that means no more bonus points....

IMO if anyone gets any of the offers that they are in fact very lucky...but yes some are luckier than others ;)

Imagine the poor bugga that was off on leave/work and came home to ring up about his/her postcard only to find the 10K cap now imposed...

Hmm we are lucky due to the ineptitude of a multi national corporation? We should feel lucky for what? Amex made an offer that we accepted. We changed behaviour based on that offer and now we should feel lucky because Amex are choosing to honour parts of the offer that are convenient to them?

Surely you are joking? Amex made an offer to people who generate massive fees for them. And now we should feel lucky that we got a chance at earning fees?

PAH!

With added PFFT!

Amex have demonstrated no good will, no honour, no competence and no customer service in this endeavour. Every issue is of their own making.

When I deal with my clients - if I commit to something I honour it. They seem to forget who generates fees for them. They may be paid by the merchants but it is the members who use their card.

I really can not believe that you are excusing Amex - it is totally shocking to me.

Yes of course.

If they had not made such a bad mistake you and I and others would not have had this chance to "earn" such a goodly amount of points.

I view this as a "mistake" promo....much the same as airlines occassionally put online "mistake" airfares.

And who is "excusing" Amex? They have made a number of mistakes which are going to cost them massively. This is my very good fortune...and their bad fortune. However I do not see the need to think that they are "rorting" cardmembers as they try and minimise the damage that they have caused themselves.

And as to massive fees.....in my case I expect to earn enough points out of this promo that Amex would be in the red for at least 5 years...maybe 20 earning the commission to pay for the points that I will be earning..

If I gained points from all 3 promos....that would become 10...perhaps 40 years.

Would I love to get all three bonuses? Yes of course...but if I just get the one I will regard myself as having gained a once in a lifetime slice of good fortune and I will not be castigating Amex for restricting me to one.

Some people made a bucket load of points by registering for all 3 promotions .
Since that is "NOT IN THE SPIRIT " of the promotion, AMEX has been taking all excess points using POC.
If you still owe points and your account is at Zero, then they will take the rest of the points from future Bonus points you earn.

Well, I was away on holiday, so did not sign up until after the 20th. (I did get a postcard for the original 10 /20). I have just received 10,000 bonus points for (I presume) September. So I will earn 40,000 by the end of the promotion.

Not many compared with what most on this forum will get, but then again, if I had signed up earlier I may well have become like so many here, greedy, grasping & in many cases, completely amoral, so perhaps it was a saving grace.

Let me see, so ... what you are actually trying to say is .... you are greedy in nature ..... but just that you missed out on a chance to get greedy?

Oh... what a pity.

So many? Just exactly who are you referring to? The people that signed up for all three promos who got no indication that these were not the same promo and expected to be rewarded accordingly or the people that signed up to the 5K/5T promo that was freely advertised and have now been told that Amex didnt want them to be in that promo and have taken them out of it?

Greedy? Grasping? Amoral?

Look no further back than post #2583. Amex is charging 25.99% per annum. There's greedy for you.

25.99% is the new rate on amex from 8th October according to a little note at the bottom of my list of transactions. Are all amex customers on this usurious rate or only those on the bonus promo? Many punters will be paying for their flights in interst:shock:

Is Amex generous to some,or did they save their bacon with the 'we can shut this down and change our mind' clause.

I intend relying on terms they filed elsewhere where there ain't no "$anta Clau$e".

Thought this though, planned it, ran it past legal, psychologists, marketers and probably a Vice President or two. They want 25% interest rates from 8 Nov if I read a note at the bottom of my transactions records correctly. They count on most card users overextending themselves and being forever struggling to pay the card off. They offer small businesses less beneficial rates than larger ones. They want to maintain market share and need people to show the Amex card and to walk out of non-Amex stores. They have Qantas wanting points each month rather than in years it takes most battlers to get a ff flight. They are combating the $1/3 point Woolworths/Safeway card etc. They now have many looking for Amex shops and changing the way we pay and where we shop. They provided flip signs saying 'Open/Closed Amex Welcome' to shops, and other promo goodies with the Amex logo - to make money.

The "$pirit" of the promo isn't Charles ****inson's Spirit of Christmas.

They've certainly got me doing that with their generous, and some say over generous, offer. I have a target number of points I wish to achieve with this promotion, which is certainly over the cap that some people seem to have been restricted to.

So far no POC, no letter, and no reason to believe I won't achieve my target. The ball is firmly in the court of Amex to deliver.

Having said that, I do see the frustrations that some people are having. Certainly some of the commentary on here suggests that there is a case to answer in a number of cases. Depending on what points I ultimately get, will dictate whether I pursue what I beleive Amex to have promised me.

Kazi: No, I am not greedy at all, (indeed, I’m quite chuffed to be getting an extra 40,000 points for nothing), and am pretty certain that my spending would not have altered a great deal if I had been on a “better” promo, however, one can seldom be certain how one would respond to a situation until it occurs.

Simongr: Sorry, but I do not believe that anyone who signed up for all three promos believed they were in fact eligible for all three. The fact that some people signed for all three and expected points from them all, and then get upset/angry because they don’t get that, is, in my opinion, simply greedy.

The fact that some on this board have also been suggesting, and attempting, to “bill split”, buy many ultra cheap items etc, to gain more transactions is greedy, and, amoral.

Colinp: They can charge 50% if they wish, it does not concern me, as I always pay my debts off before they gain any extra. Credit cards are meant to be used merely as a convenience, if people choose to spend beyond their means, that is their own fault.

There that feels better.
