I received my letter today. It appears that we have all been put on "the offer (we) would have recieved had (we) been targetted for this promotion". I find it quite interesting that we all would have been placed on the 5K/10T scheme...

; sure we are getting served something, but it stinks) .

Well it may stink....but at 5K /10 T that "something" would still be way way more generous than any other Amex promo offered in past years in Australia that I am aware of (and dare I say way way more generous than you will ever get again from Amex, or anyone else such as Citibank for example)...so at least it should be a stench which leaves a nice present for you...

on an interesting note, there wasnt a Tel number on the letter. Maybe they dont want us to be calling them or Bob Blinkhorne.

I know this is a computergenerated letter, but still they should provide us with a contact number. I know we can call the general MR number or the executive office number but we arent getting the right info coming from either two of these avenues. Maybe Bob Blinkhorne's office will be happy to accept some of these calls........

just my two cloves of garlic......

Lovetravellingoz, that isn't really the point here is it?

Amex has, through their own action, exposed themselves to shifting baseline syndrome. Alone, 5K/10T may be unusually 'generous' (generous is not the right term, because ultimately they do these things for THEM, not US), but compared to 5K/5T it is downright stingy.

Compare it to 5K/5T + 5K/10T + 10K/20T and it's clear why people are feeling pretty rorted.

If Bob's not in the phone book, he might be on the electoral roll. I'm sure his wife will love taking messages for him;)

OMG!!! There is indeed a Blinkhorne in Belrose, NSW in the white pages , assuming that is indeed him living in NSW.

Very interesting.....

I suggest you ensure that you've contacted Amex first with your displeasure and given them the chance to fob you off first (In writing is much more preferable, and especially from "Customer Relations" type teams vs the front line staff).
.

That's a good idea, personally I've never found an address I can write to amex with. I've had other issues with amex, mailed them letters, and never gotten a reply. They insist I call their lines.

I guess I must be the first one that got the letter that's been put on the 5K/5T promo then. It's fair to say it's going to have the desired effect on my transactions going forward (though I'd been doing a pretty good job of it up until now anyway :D).

Yes you are correct in that they usually do it for them.....and I am sure that "doing it for them" inspired this promo, like all promos......that I understand as I am not foolish.

However my personal view is that the amount of their bonus was a giant mistake...

Rather than 5000 points/ for 5 transactions...it probably was meant to be say 50 (as it was aimed at encouraging more small spends...)...so buy a coffee and get 56 points rather than just 6....but 506?

So at 1 cent a point...5000 cents for 10 coffees...and over 3 months = giant mistake by Amex.

Amex IMO bungled the amount...and so while I fully understand everyone including myself wanted all 3 bonuses, or even just the most generous bonus.....I would not use the terms "rorting" or "stingy" to describe Amex now trying to minimise what will be a big cost to them.

Someone..(and this is not a criticism at all as it is valid purchase) mentioned that they have bought 50 coffees.

That is say 25000 points or $250 that amex has to pay out. 50 coffees = say $200 or say $4 in Commission for Amex. So are Amex stingy in not paying out $500 and instead paying out $250 instead?

IMO many people in this promo will receive in bonus points more value than Amex will extract from commission from them (via the stores) in many a year...mayber even ever.

Indeed it would probably be cheaper for Amex if everyone in the promo cancelled their cards...

I just got the letter, and I'm down for 5000 MR points for every 5 transactions as well. Also have a line in there that any bonus points accrued outside of this offer will be removed from my account.
Not so bad after all :)

When I first got the 5K/10T offer I thought it was pretty darn generous. The 5K/5T offer is twice as generous, and I feel gypped :)

(No letter though)

IMO if anyone gets any of the offers that they are in fact very lucky...but yes some are luckier than others ;)

Imagine the poor bugga that was off on leave/work and came home to ring up about his/her postcard only to find the 10K cap now imposed...

... just when things were starting to get quiet...

Looks like the BFSO are starting to get some complaints build up. Just got off the phone to them and what was going to be a few weeks investigation, now may be months.

Just tell BFSO to read this thread. This would reduce them to spend 1 day reading the entire thread only ;).

I'm starting to wonder if the growing timeframe for allocation of bonus points (6-8 wks to 10 wks from month end) has more to do with the investigations into customer complaints rather than workload.

I wonder if Amex are waiting to see the results and what actual penalties there will be if they don't deliver under the various T&Cs. Call me a cynic but I won't feel completely comfortable until the bonus points start posting again.

I got the 10/5000 letter today.

Weird, because I was POC - High, whereas others who got the 10/5000 letters were other "POC" annotations.

The letter has possible errors though. If I read it properly, I now get points every 10 transactions - regardless of overseas spends and similar (previously denied) categories. They should have summarised the supposed new T&C's that they tried to backdate for me.

Additionally, they advise that "bonus points accrued outside of this offer will be removed". Well I get bonus points from having a Plat card, and others are getting bonus points from a current BP offer. Is Amex telling me they will be removed?

Considering my options now and deciding what to do.

To those who have been "downgraded" from the 5k for 5 transactions offer to the 5k for 10 transactions offer, have you called up to discuss this issue with AMEX customer service?

Do you think there is any chance that they will put you to 5k for 5 transactions?

Like many others, after enrolling in multiple offers, I have specifically called AMEX to remove the two less generous offers and maintain the 5k for 5 transactions.

What gives them the right to amend our specific instructions without prior speaking to us?

I've spoken to them so far with no avail.. has been nearly 2 weeks since they promised a call back. I've decided to wait until the post to see exactly what promo they have decided to put me on.

as far as I am concerned i should be on the 5/5 offer as it was the last one I enrolled for. I haven't decided about going after the points they removed yet.

My letter says they will remove any points accrued under any offers other than the one they just put me on.

Any idea how they do that, given my points balance is 0, after they removed 3700 or so points during the POC cycle?
