10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

........... I rang back this evening and was told due to multi sign ups on the one card they have registered us on 22 Sep with 10k limit per month.

WOW WOW WOW.... Very Unexpected solution, but a clever one. The most greedy group are those who multy register, and this would take care of that. I guess they will argue that all multy-registrations had to be cancelled. Then all those people had to be registered again, but that would be after 20th already.

Lucky I registered in the 5/5 Only

It will be interesting to see how they treat the variation in T&C's implied in their letter (just saw mine, received while I was away).

"5000 Membership Rewards Points when you use your Card every 10 transactions, up until 31 December 2008"

I'm not unhappy with the 5K/10 since I wasn't originally targetted, but their letter implies:

No capping
No requirement based on Monthly number of transactions
No restriction as to points accruing for Australian transactions only.

Interesting. I have no letter yet, and wonder if I will get one.

The letter does not waive the T&C which are clearly listed on the website and all of which will apply.

Capping will as per the T&C and will depend on when you registered (or at least when Amex thinks you registered ;) )

IMO the main point of the letter is to advise which of the 3 bonus rates you will be receiving. From what I can glean so far this letter has only been sent to those who registered more than once.

Nice judgmental comment again the RB. Logic missing as normal, judgment that multi registrants are "greedy" and should be punished although where that comes into anything I am not sure. Also factually incorrect given the reporting by people like me who registered for multi promos who are still uncapped and registered under pre-24 Sep conditions. Apart from that, thanks for the additional facts added as always. I did miss the requoting of the T&Cs - I always love a touch of nostalgia...

simongr,

Ever the cynic :!:

Ok - now that my ineptitude with the Fax machine has been addressed, I am happy now that the fax has actually been sent. I shall call this afternoon to see if anything will be done now that they have the "evidence".

Just wondering if anyone has successfully managed to convince amex to be converted back to the 5/5000 promo after receiving the letter from amex that they have been converted to 10/5000 promo.????

I've gotta convince them to go from the 10t/10k back to the 5/5! although i am not giving up!

I just got a card in the mail today offering 25% points off Store gift cards for Christmas.

As soon as they give us the bonus points (well those of us who are capped and have no current battles with Amex) they want us to redeem them ASAP!

I will pass on the deal. I prefer using my points for travel but I don't expect any good deals on airline conversions in the near future given the cost blowout and possible expensive litigation on this promotion

I'm working on getting a card that works for the moment - I'll get back to the points issue....

If you're planning on getting gift cards, then you're almost just as good off going through Velocity Rewards, due to the 25% bonus (till 30 Nov).

88000 MR = 110000 Velocity Rewards = $1000 David Jones or Myer voucher
i.e. 1.136c/MR point

(75% x 115000 MR) = 86250 MR = $1000 Voucher through Membership Rewards
i.e. 1.159c/MR point.

Damn, just got my card recently. Looks like im way too late for this promotion:

We apologise, this Bonus offer has now ended. Keep an eye out for our forthcoming promotional bonuses and remember, you can register for the bonus as soon as you get our notification, there is no need to wait until the bonus starts. That way, you will automatically earn bonus points as soon as the promotion starts!

Only problem with Velocity is they have had a site upgrade sometime between last week and today, and along with that is a price hike in points required for the rewards. I was wanting a Bose Sounddock which last week was around 53000 points, I went to order it today and its now 69000! A few other things I looked at like Ipods and golf clubs have also gone up but not by as much as the sound dock.

So I'm back to holding onto the points and using them for travel.

Good Luck!

I just phoned and spoke with premium card services.

I was put through to a supervisor and asked to be put on the 5t/5k promo for which I had signed up for and he explained that they have put people on the earn rate they should have been on. When I explained that I saw the 5t/5k on the website he was not moved at all and explained that it was a link to the three promo's they were running at the time.

To cut a long story short the answer was "no you're still on the 10t/5k and it makes no difference that you spend $120000 a month and we will not be changing people on the basis of a link."

I will not be taking it any further as I believe they are within their rights to alter promo's as per the T&C's of the cards.

It's sad :( but at the same time I am grateful to be earning the extra 120000 points this will generate for me, and as they are the card provider they have the upperhand when it comes to T&C's and I would not like to have my card cancelled (which is one option I think they will look at rather than pay out all the MR points) as it is a good point earner.

YMMV

Thanks for pointing that out. The price of the $1000 voucher has gone up from 110k to 120k. Most things have gone up ~10%. I guess it is the standard reward point inflation that occurs around the end of the year. I think Marriott Rewards are another company guilty of this at the moment.

Still I don't think anything will come close to matching the value of 1000 MR : 600 SPG rate that was offered up till the end of Sept.

No, my understanding is that you're not too late, but you need to call up and register, rather than using the internet link (which as you have found, has been "closed").
