Luisa from Amex, per post 267, says"""I just wanted to let you know that the offer will be restricted to Cardmembers who received the invitation in the mail; and Cardmembers who are currently enrolled, even if the offer was not intended for them.""

From this, I would be assuming anyone who registered prior to this announcement is validly registered, regardless if the promo was intended for you or not.

Yes that is how I would view it.

But also note:

"We will be reviewing all Cardmembers who registered multiple times and limiting their enrolment to the original offer, or the offer they would have been eligible for had they been invited to participate. "

So some might find themselves switched, which is still a lot better than no offer at all.

This bit concerns me and if I get stuck on the cough deal, I will be cancelling my AMEX and they can miss out on the 200k+ a year that I put through my cards!

As a high spender I don't want the coughpy 10,000 points for 20 transactions, I want the 5,000 for 5 transactions.

I don't care for Mrs Smith who spends $100 a month on her card and therefore she was targeted with the better offer to get her to increase her usage to say $500 a month.

I'll see what point start coming through for me and if it's not the 5,000 for 5 transcations, I will cancel the card :)

Should add that I have around 200 transactions a month, so can easily extend that to 300.

At 300 transactions a month
150,000 points a month still :)

Re: Where is the TERMS AND conditions disclosure statement ???

 I am very concerned about the way this promotion is conducted. There is not a disclosure statement available on the AMEX website or from their call centers. They will tell you verbally what the deal is about, but won’t send you a printed copy of the rules….

The Terms and Conditions of the promotion are on the postcard Amex sent to those people the promotion was for, so they have sent a printed copy of those to the correct people.

If you were not targetted, then you alone are responsible for assuming the risk that you don't get points.

To be honest, I don't see how you can view any of the deals as being 'cough'. Cancelling the card will likely inflict more damage on yourself than it will on Amex!

Not our fault that AMEX runs promotions which allow any user to enter MYBONUS or whatever and then be eligible! They should have a much better system that stops you from registering if you were not targeted.

As the website clearly states I am now eligible for 5,000 points for every 5 transactions AND 2 CSR reps that I spoke to said I am allowed to have this offer, AMEX will run a very fine line if they pull it from me.

Added to that the very limited T&C's clearly state no min $ purchase, and also clearly state "No Limit" to the amount of points you can earn.

This would be why they are allowing anyone that has registered to keep the promo. In fact I just registered another business card that I have under another company name and it allowed me to have the 5,000 for 5 offer. So no idea if it's really closed off yet !

I am sure AMEX have learnt a very big lesson already about how fast great deals spread on forums/internet these days!

cough that potentially a low spend customer has better incentives than a higher spend customer.

AMEX have looked after me before when I have wanted to cancel, so I do mean something to them :)

To me, I don't bother with:

Their pathetic overpriced travel service, who only get back to you with quotes if you speak to the helpful reps. Some of them there have no idea and never deliver what they promise. The joke of a deal they gave me last week was a quote for accomodation that was $3000 more for 6 nights than if I booked directly with the hotel

"Concierge" service - Pathetic

What I would miss is the 2 for 1 business class airfares and the free travel insurance!

All correct, and as long as you don't be stupid with your transactions I don't see that they would do anything.

oz_mark - Glad we agree, didn't want to have to argue this one out on a Friday night

As I said my previous months transaction were 200, which I will bring to 10 a day, so around 300.

I will be adding in a few more low spend purchases which I would normally pay cash for like coffee's, bottles of water from 7/11 etc etc.

I won't be purchasing bread rolls one by one, or boxes of matches either.

For those that do stupid acts like that I hope their MR account is cancelled

This is quite normal behaviour when companies are trying to increase business. Witness hotel offers sent to people they are encouraging to use the hotel more versus the complaints of those that don't get the offers when they already stay 100+ nights in a year. I'm sure it's in Loyalty Marketing 101

Well, I guess they may be looking after you again if you go through with your threat.

Not too mention a reward scheme that is one of the more rewarding schemes in the market.

Agree with everything, I would miss the 2 for 1 business class deals, and the ability to transfer points to Qantas.

The Diners Club offers are not that bad and they have access to Air NZ which is very good as well but AMEX still has the best program.

I will be checking my MR statement every day now to see what bonus I get

End of the day happy with anything that is a free bonus, but of course would love the best offer possible

Me too, but I will have to make do with the one I got, which is still an awesome deal! I have also switched some of my small cash purchases :)

Just checking again, because it might have been missed above - are people having their transactions appear in the MR online statement for 18th September yet? Transactions have posted in my online statement transaction listing, but not in my MR account yet. Is this the same for everyone, or just me?

Mine haven't updated on the MR account yet...

Hi Beardoc,

I have similar issues where all my transactions on 17-19th September is not shown in MR yet. I have no idea what is going on. But hopefully they are not "revoking" the offer to anyone who already registered .....

Anyone else have this problem?

And yes, I ended up using Amex card more on smaller purchases (when I normally would use cash to pay it), and it does make me try to use Amex everywhere ...... So I don't pay my AGL bill in $5 increments ..... or pay 100 mushrooms at Coles separately ....... Also take into account we have 2 cards linked into our account, so on average we have 5-7 transactions per day for 2 cards, on different locations, I actually think it is quite reasonable .....

..... pay 100 mushrooms at Coles separately .......

Funniest line I have read on these forums since I joined.........Yesterday

I bet none of us have actually looked at the MR points page as often as the last few days

I have no idea if they update daily, every 2nd day or some random period between 1-5 days!

I actually read news story a while back (like 10 years ago) where a guy actually bought all the mushrooms separately at Coles, because each mushroom never go over 2 cents each then Coles have to round down and give him for free, and he does it everytime .... annoyed the checkout lady as well as everyone who waited behind him ..... eventually he was banned from going to Coles .... I think .....

Actually paying a bill in a few dollar increments is almost like buying 100 mushrooms separately .... But I do believe buying small items at different shops and places is OK .....
