No reply from Amex yet so I have called and left a message - if no call back soon (Monday) then it will be time then it will finally be time for the BFSO.

I have it in writing, along with several pages of other relevant information from the BFSO that Amex have up until the 30th of November to contact members who have lodged a complaint to have their issues dealt with.

If no contact is made, or suitable offer, i.e. original promotion as it was offered by the 30th then the BFSO will seek orders to have things dealt with accordingly.

I have already sent my forms back (2 weeks ago) permitting the BFSO under the privacy act to act on my behalf.

Cheers simongr and file51 for the updates. I too am waiting for a response from amex after having sent my complaint via post nearly three weeks ago. Given what file51 said I will delay contacting the BFSO until Nov 30.

Current situation summary: Still no new points coming through, I was never POC'd but did receive 'the naughty boy for signing up multiple times letter' and was put on 10T/5K. Notified Amex in within the week that I reject their new "offer". Still going nuts on the card, I have faith in our regulatory bodies and am looking forward to some extra flights!

The FSO told me their decision is binding on Amex, they hold no hearings and do everything my correspondence, and one can still sue later.

Not sure why people (oz_mark aside) are now refusing to use their Amex cards due to the failure of the points posting under this promotion -

The good news is that I _think_ my issue has now been put to bed. Hopefully Amex have sorted the internal systems out now, and I won't have any more strange account happenings....

So onward to transacting again.......

So how is everybody else going? I'm finding places to eat for lunch that I didn't realise took Amex (Red Rooster - min $10 charge at my local store), so as long as I stick to the healthy options I'll be alive long enough to spend the bonus points...
Not as well as you! I have not been feeling well the last few days so hopefully will get a chance to catch up the number of transactions for November at dinner on Sunday and Tuesday and drinks on Wednesday.

Has anyone had any luck finding anywhere that will accept Amex for purchase of bus tickets in Sydney (i.e. Sydney Buses Traveltens)? I have had a very difficult time finding anywhere that will accept Mastercard/Visa, let alone Amex. Even 7-Elevens which accept Amex on other items will allow only cash payments for bus tickets.

We regularly buy Travelten bus tickets with Amex from the Newslink newsagency in the centre of Wynyard Station and have also bought them from the Newslink at Martin Place station.

I didn't receive a letter from Amex inviting me to join the 10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions but when I first saw it mentioned here back in September I called to opt in as per the instructions here. About 5 minutes after I finished the call the Amex representative I had spoken to called me back to say I couldn't take part in the promotion - it was only for people who had been sent the letter. (I told him I had some unopened mail from Amex and assumed I had the same letter as a friend).

I haven't read all pages in this thread but I'm interested in hearing if most people been offered this promotion? Were they targeting people who didn't use their card a lot?

Ken1, I suggest you immediately go via www.fos.org.au. , to advise the Ombudsman that Amex accepted you, then Amex reneged and now owe. It costs nothing, binds Amex, and there's nothing to lose. With Xmas coming plus mybe your need to have points banked for use this January for flights in Jan 2010's school holidays, I wouldn't wait.

Vet,

How did you get that info? will the BGSO send it out if you contact them?

Cheers,

Nick

I've been interviewed.

The FOS will ask you to set out what you think the facts, issues and legal contentions are. That's a tough call on lay-people who need a semi-trailer licence to navigate through Amex's maze of spin. But try anyway.

Has Amex made any response to the FOS that you've become privy to, or is it just collecting information from you at this stage?

It is very Australian for everyone to run their own interference to the Amex "juggernaught"... but it strikes me that a well briefed and savvy ginger group , with a list of disgruntled cardholders under their arm .. might just achieve a good outcome for everyone who is being poc'd and box'd into submission...

Cheers

Absolutely.

Hi all,

Admittedly I haven't been following this thread as closely as I should, so forgive me for the dummy question, but I'm wondering where I stand?

I signed up for the promo pre-the date that AMEX said they would accept people for (19th of Sept was it?) I signed up for all 3, but signed up for the 5/5k promo last.

I received my first lot of 5,000 bonus points after my first 5 transactions (incidentally, international transactions), then received nothing after that.

I've made around 100 transactions between now and then, and just recently received another 5,000 bonus points. So ~100 transactions in ~2 months, and 10,000 bonus points credited.

My transactions have not been in any way "dodgy" or excessive - I've simply used my AMEX more and other cards/cash less. Average transaction would probably be about $20 (but a few over $1,000). Can I expect my extra points to be credited any time soon? Or is this expecting a little too much? Should I call AMEX, or is the general consensus "wait it out and see"?

I'm waiting to start using my Earth Plat (3pts per $) but have still been using my other AMEX up until now, due to the 5/5k promo. Thanks in advance. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I do not believe anyone on this forum except for the Amex lurkers can answer most of your questions.

But from what has been gleened...and as per the amended T&C you should still be in the promo...but not all 3 bonus rates.

However which one would be "according" to Amex based on what you would have been on.

Many people that registered for more than one promo have been sent a letter clarifying that they are only in one bonus rate.

I received a letter confirming that I am in the 5/5 rate...the one I was postcarded for.

As to why some have resumed getting points awarded...and some like me not yet..who knows?

Febs

Have you received a letter telling you to which promo you have been allocated?

If not, then you are in the same limbo as many others.

A few people who were not targetted and signed up for all three promos have been advised that they have been put on 10T/5K and have been receiving points in Nov for Nov transactions.

One point of note - I have not received points for overseas transactions so if you have been travelling a lot and a lot of thse transactions are overseas - do not expect to get any bonus for those. I would suspect that the initial posting of bonii for overseas transactions was a system issue and in the final analysis you will get a catch bonus which will take account of having received bonii in correctly.

Beardoc, on 18 September I informed Crystal at FOS, ACCC, ASIC and the Gaming Commission that Amex staff were advocating the very practices that Amex later asserts were not its intentions. (I've given statements).

Well I don't see the rush to call and cry foul yet, they still have a few weeks before the 'should be credited' date.
