10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I enrolled in the 5/5000 MyReward promotion prior to Sep 20 (no invitation).

I just spoke to a supervisor at the Membership Rewards call centre to check up on why my points were not posting and was advised that all cardholders in my position would be retrospectively be moved to the 10/5000 MyBonus promotion (uncapped) effective Oct 1.

Apparently, a letter has been sent to members advising them of the above position though I have yet to receive anything (did anyone get this letter?). Interestingly, this is despite the fact that a CSR at the Membership Rewards call centre confirmed to me only a couple of weeks ago that I was still on the 5/5000 MyReward promotion and uncapped. When I reminded the supervisor of this fact, she simply stated that the CSR was not correctly informed!

My patience with Amex has now run out and I will be referring this matter to the BFSO.

This is my situation also. I did receive the letter and have registered a dispute with the FS Ombudsman.

I have been receiving points in Nov and Oct under th 10T/5K promo which is not acceptable to me.

EDIT

Update as of 7/12 - Amex are now in the hole for a whopping 141K missing bonus points. This is based on points posted to date and teh transactions since 7/12.

Unlike mrslindsaywilson I have only been able to rack up 21T since 1 Dec.

the good news is that my little nephew is back from Thailand for Xmas so that will be a heap of T that we were going not have as we wold not have been getting him many gifts as we thought he was going to be in Thailand until February. he alone will probably 20-30 T :D

I too entered the MYREWARD promo pre-20th Sep (no invitation)

Is the 5T/5K promo the only one you enrolled in or did you enrol in multiple promos, as (I think) simongr and others did. I ask this because when I spoke to a CSR a few days ago I enquired specifically about my MYREWARD bonus points. (I only ever enrolled in the one promo). Although I wasn't happy about the timeframe for the points to be awarded, he did confirm that I was still in the promo. No mention was made of being shifted to 10t/5K.

Note: No criticism of multiple promo entrants intended. Just trying to get the facts straight.

Today is 10 weeks from the end of September. So far, not a bonus point to be seen.

Phone companies might be in for a profitable week.........

I enrolled in the 5T/5K promotion only.

If Amex are planning on moving me from 5T/5k to 10T/5K, maybe I need to triple my TX rate for the rest of Dec to make up the shortfall ;)

Good effort on the 37T this weekend
No, 37T's is the MTD figure - she only did 6T's at Myers on Saturday. Had she done 37T's I would have been a lot more interested in the financial effect those T's would have meant to our cashflow ;).

NO!

Get put on the corect offered rate and THEN triple your T!

Is anyone having problems accessing their MR statement online? I can get to all the other sections of the Amex site, including statements, etc., but when I click on "view my transactions" in the MR section, it just times out and I just get nothing sent back.

This has been happening for two days now, on computers from home and work, using both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I have found it very slow to go from the main accounts page to the MR page to the detailed transaction page for some time. Maybe give it a little more hang time?

I called on Sunday and I was confirmed in the 5t/5k bonus uncapped. I wasn't told of being moved to another promo.

However I was told that I should be receiving points today. My normal rewards points have updated for Monday but still no bonus points!

Mine is working fine, loading up v. quickly.

Mine works fine. Yesterdays transactions have posted, but no sign of bonus points.

I just spoke to MR.

Background:
* I signed up for 5t/5k on 19/9.
* bonus points up til 23/9.
* no points since then
* Confirmed numerous times over the past few weeks that i am on 5/5.

called today - she said that people who were not on the original eligibility list (i.e. without original postcard) HAVE BEEN moved to MYBONUS (10t/5k, uncapped) as of 1 October. She said this decision was made on 27 Nov.

I then told her today is 10 weeks from end of Sept, and she just said "sorry... delays are possible with such a big sign up etc.."

I'll now lodge in written complaint to AMEX and BFSO - 1) about the retrospective change of earning rate. 2) Delay of points way beyond the original "8-10 wks after transactions".

I enrolled in the 5T/5K promotion only.

Print off the FAQs which clearly said Amex offered the same deal to non invited persons. There's a raft of laws about misleading, unconscionable and unfair practices for the bfso, asic and accc to look into.

Agreed. Amex need to either achieve the 10 week limit they have set for themselves. If not then they should be out contacting people to let them know that they can't achieve their own conditions.

Bear in mind, Amex wrote the conditions, Amex implemented the promotion, it is up to Amex to deliver on the conditions they specified and implemented.

Given that they have not communicated with anyone that they will not meet the 8-10 week deadline, excuses such as 'big sign up' are not acceptable.

If the bonus points from September are not in my account by tomorrow, they will be hearing from me!

Are they doing the posting of bonus points manually? If not, the number of transactions would have only minor effects on the speed of the computer operation.

Just another delay to p*ss off loyal customers.

# up to and including 8/12, with at least 4 transactions to post from today. Goal is 120, so I'm well ahead of target  - maybe time to consider 150  [That would make an overall target of 155K bonus points]

Well, like others on this Forum, my expectation from Amex's T&C's is that they should be posting the "unpaid" bonus points from Septembers' transactions by close of business today. If they don't then they are in breach of their own Terms & Conditions. I also posted previously that if they believed that they could not process them in that timeframe, they should be contacting us to advise. If they don't, then even I would start to consider contacting the relevant authorities...

As an uncapped member, I'm certainly going to rack up as many transactions as I can before 31 December. Then if I have yet to receive my bonus points (I accept the 8-10 week delay on each individual months' transactions as it was in the original T&C's), I see no reason to continue transacting on Amex. Albeit I may lose out on 0.5 bonus points for subsequent transactions, but at least my ANZ QF Visa Plat and Citibank Visa Plat give me certainty of point accrual.

Amex, you appear to have fallen down on any number of issues (this list is clearly not exhaustive):

  • Not putting together clear original T&C's (that would have stopped the me-too'ers registering, including me )
  • Not giving your CSR's clear guidelines and scripts when it did start to go belly up
  • Not communicating clearly & effectively the cancellation of the promo across all the access points (online & telephone) mid-promo [well, 13 days into a 112 day promo]
  • How not to change the original T&C's a couple of times on the run
  • Overall, how not to run a promo
  • How to maximise destruction of loyalty and goodwill of your cardholder base (and engender a feeling of distrust by us feeling that to receive our expected bonus ponts, we have to bring actions like enforceable undertakings from government and consumer based bodies).
So Amex, what's it to be :-|

I can't wait to see if Visa or Mastercard learn from Amex's mistakes and bring out a really successful promo campaign in early 2009.

It looks like Amex's actions will be scrutinised by the BFSO. I just got off the phone with a case officer at the BFSO who advised me that a circular had been sent to case officers earlier today advising them that the BFSO:

a) had received numerous complaints about the MyRewards promotion; and
b) would be investigating Amex's actions.

If you have a grievance and have yet to complain to the BFSO, I would strongly encourage you to do so as this will put further pressure upon Amex to do the right thing.

As far as I am concerned, the time for sitting on the sidelines whilst Amex tries to wiggle its way out of its promises is over.
